You may have heard something about Whaleshares, one fork of Steem, but you still may not know how to get an account there. This tutorial will hopefully help you get up and running on the Whaleshares platform. Check out this article by @scipio to get an overview of the Whaleshares platform: https://whaleshares.io/whaleshares/@scipio/comparing-steem-with-whaleshares

What is Whaleshares?

Whaleshares is a fork of Steem, and therefore, it will look and feel quite similar to Steem. It is a Graphene-based platform and has its own blockchain. It has rules and other aspects that are different from Steem, but it has quite a few similarities as well.

My initial experience with the Whaleshare community, both on the platform and in their Discord channel was very positive. The only thing that was a bit complex was getting a Whaleshares account, hence the need for this tutorial. They are simplifying this method, so if you want an easier process, maybe you should wait. For the restless and FOMO crowd, this tutorial is for you.

FIRST BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING

Decide if you want a Whaleshares account now, or are willing to wait for the normal sign up process, which I heard can take a few weeks. If you want to do the sign up process that can take several weeks, go here: https://whaleshares.io/pick_account

If you want to do the faster account service do these steps, but you must have a Bitshares account. If you don’t have a Bitshares account, sign up for one here: https://openledger.io/welcome and use the account model easy sign up process. Openledger is an easy to use interface for the Bitshares platform.

STEP ONE: Whaleshares Discord

Go into the Whaleshares Discord: https://discord.gg/VthxU29
There’s also a room in the Discord channel named “new account support”

Send a DM to @krazykrista who will send you 1 SIGNUPWLS token to your Bitshares account so that you can create a Whaleshares account. You must tell her what your Bitshares account name is so that she can send you the token.

Pro tip: Be friendly

STEP TWO: Creating Your Whaleshares Account

Go this website: https://newacc.wls.services/anonacc

Choose your account name for your new Whaleshares account. (Not your Bitshares account name, these are entirely separate)

After your account name has been determined available, click on the button that says, “Generate Keys”. These are your posting, active, owner and memo keys that you must save and backup. Best to save these keys on a usb flash drive.

After you have saved all your keys to your new Whaleshares account, press the button “Show me the Memo”.

Your memo will look something like this but of course yours will be different. DON'T COPY THIS MEMO! This is just for an example of what it looks like:

anonacc?a=WLS6AfCu6nTUL7Rk24ZBDbAuCw2qN441pGdKJzuEVgdqMMM7q6Zfd&m=WLS8eXSb5xwTyTFQASmGXJWR6Hmf7aBUwBXDhTkLeCHqfDq4N2xRt&o=WLS5ZAGkVT7W1a6DGtafGGMvwSja3s1XhcXvsCzgECofUuZgy1kDV&p=WLS7YyEU7YAssAL2LRZzUeci8gf5qJcqoTg3tbM69Jzsk29wZpdbd&u=trythis

You must copy your memo somewhere safe now. You will paste this memo in a Bitshares transaction.

STEP THREE: Sending a transaction to the @wls-acc on Bitshares.

Now go to Openledger and log in to your account: https://openledger.io/welcome

Click on the word “transfer” at the top.

Now you will send 1 SIGNUPWLS to the wls-acc and paste your memo that you saved from the Anon Acc page. It should look like this:

Please note that you must have some BTS in your account to do this transaction.

That’s it!

You now should be able to log into Whaleshares with your account name and posting key.

If you have issues, go into the Whaleshares Discord channel.
