Wednesday Walk-'Day Trip To Stradbroke'

'Day Trip To Stradbroke.'

My Wednesday Walk involved hitching a ride with my husband to Cleveland (in Queensland, Australia) so that I could visit the Ferry terminal and get some information about a proposed day trip we have been planning to do for a long time.

John had some business to take care of so I got him to drop me off while I picked up a few brochures and walked around the area snapping some pictures of the ferries etc.

We plan most of our Day Trips in Queensland during the winter months because the cooler weather is ideal for us to explore places we haven't been to before........such as Stradbroke Island.

We can see a small part of North Stradbroke from our house in Redcliffe and another reason we want to go soon is that it is the season for whale watching and apparently whales are often spotted frolicking in the waters close to the shore.

Between the months of June and November, majestic humpback whales pass the North Gorge headland on their yearly migratory journey. Their destination takes them from Antarctica to their calving grounds on the Great Barrier Reef. They say it is possible to spot them without the aid of binoculars and I certainly hope that is the case when we go there.

We'll probably cruise over to the island on the Calypso or a Ferry very similar. You don't have to book.......just turn up! The weather reports are favourable for this Friday so we will get up early and catch one of the first water taxis across Moreton Bay to Straddie, as it affectionately referred to by the locals.

In order to make the most of our day we'd like to leave no later than 9am (preferably earlier) so if the traffic on the way down to the terminal is good, we should reach the first part of our destination approximately half an hour later.

Sign boards outside the ticket office showed some of the tours available on the island such as, Sea kayaking, Snorkelling, and Sandboarding but for our first visit we want to target a few focal points and make sure we have plenty of time for whale watching if they are in the area.

Gold Cats buses were lined up waiting for the return of passengers from their visit.

I checked out the cost for pensioners and it is only $10 return, so that was pleasing. Buses are available on arrival which cover a large part of Stradbroke and we can get on and get off whenever we like for only $5 each.

I will make sure to have my camera batteries all charged up and I look forward to sharing our day trip with you in the next few days.

See you then!
