The walk to Fairy Creek Falls starts in a parking lot next to a tourism office, bears guard the entrance. There are many miles of hiking and biking trails one can access from this point as Fernie is a outdoor lovers paradise. There's a large alpine skiing resort, there are nordic trails, mountain biking, fly fishing, river rafting, rock climbing and a decent country club all surrounded by mountains, this makes Fernie an ideal spot for nature lovers.

We came here because it's a little out of the way. Being a few hours from Calgary, Alberta or Kalispell, Montana, Fernie, British Columbia is remote. There is one mountain road going in and out of town. Despite the isolation, the paths are well maintained and this is a busy walk because it's easy and there is a waterfall at the end of the trail.

The hike starts up in the hills as the other option is to go along the highway to get from the parking lot to the creek. You can take as long and challenging of a hike as you want. We took the easy route and followed the signs strait to the falls.

There are a few signs where you can learn about the nature and the area, they call it a narrated hike. Trout live in the streams and the Elk River which runs through fernie, this is the game fish that makes the region a fly fishing hotspot.

This creek is not as large as the Elk river which runs through town but it was a hot Sunday morning and being in a shaded forest next to the any water is pleasant.

Hiking through the mountains can be dangerous, we weren't particularly worried about avalanches in the middle of the summer but there can be falling rocks. One can see part of Mount Fernie in the background.

Fairy creek falls has a nice spray coming off of it, getting right up to the falls involves walking over some slippery rocks so we kept our distance. The water was fresh, clean and the air was refreshing. The energy from the forest and the waterfall was exactly what we needed.

There is a nice bench and a collection box for trail maintenance at the bottom of the falls. They do an excellent job keeping the trail nice and the hike is easy for all ages. If you are ever in Fernie BC I strongly recommend it.
