Un saludo cariñoso para todos mis amigos virtuales, hoy me ocupa el tema de la salud visual de Alan por su [hipertensión ocular](https://www.aao.org/salud-ocular/enfermedades/hipertension-ocular#:~:text=Hipertensi%C3%B3n%20ocular%20ocurre%20cuando%20la,normal%20puede%20causar%20el%20glaucoma.) y además [hipermetropía](https://www.nei.nih.gov/espanol/aprenda-sobre-la-salud-ocular/enfermedades-y-afecciones-de-los-ojos/hipermetropia#:~:text=La%20hipermetropía%20(también%20llamada%20hiperop%C3%ADa,de%20directamente%20en%20la%20retina.)), siendo atendido como un paciente con sospecha de [glaucoma](https://www.nei.nih.gov/espanol/aprenda-sobre-la-salud-ocular/enfermedades-y-afecciones-de-los-ojos/glaucoma#:~:text=%C2%BFQu%C3%A9%20es%20el%20glaucoma%3F,posible%20que%20no%20los%20note.). Gracias a Dios no tiene glaucoma, pero hay que estar vigilante y ser responsable con todas las recomendaciones médicas, más aún por el alto riesgo que lo acompaña debido a los antecedentes familiares que tiene mi hijo, primero por parte de su papá con hipermetropía e hipertensión ocular y además de dos tías abuelas con glaucoma. Les cuento que desde que estamos en Colombia, mi hijo de 11 años ya ha tenido cuatro revisiones oftalmológicas; dos con una Oftalmólogo Pediatra y dos con una Glaucamatólogo o Especialista en Glaucoma. La última consulta de control fue el 16 de enero de este año 2023 con la Oftalmólogo Pediatra quien le hizo un chequeo completo para evaluar sus ojos y muy especialmente la [PIO (Presión Intraocular)](https://www.aao.org/salud-ocular/anatomia/la-presion-ocular). En esta cuarta revisión, me atreví repentinamente a tomar unas pocas fotos pensando en mi mamá que está en Venezuela, para enviárselas y que así sienta que está acompañando a su nieto, porque ella siempre está muy pendiente de Alan. Bueno hasta ahora no lo había hecho, tomar fotos durante la revisión, pero debía hacerlo con discreción aunque le dije a la doctora que tomaría unas fotos para mi mamá sin interrumpir el chequeo. Además que debo estar concentrada en la revisión, porque yo necesito estar atenta a todo lo que le hacen a mi hijo y a las explicaciones de la doctora, por eso las fotos fueron tomadas muy, pero muy rápido, lo que sin duda se nota en algunas imágenes borrosas o movidas. Pero amigos, con buena disposición decidí compartir con ustedes estas fotos de esa consulta médica para explicarles sobre los avances de Alan. ![1.gif](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/parauri/Eou9cHALoBky6yFk9LP175MkCXiBQL7ex7ZNxfA2XexY9bWfuh4A1AQPXW8gr6hVjj7.gif) La revisión fue satisfactoria, hasta ahora la salud visual de Alan va marchando bien, gracias a Dios, sin descuidar su tratamiento y revisiones médicas de control. El dolor en los ojos ha desaparecido y la hipertensión ocular está controlada con las gotas oftálmicas KAIRÓS PF a base de [Latanoprost](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latanoprost) al 0.005%, una gota en ambos ojos cada 24 horas, específicamente en las noches. También usa gotas lubricantes [HialTears al 0.4%](https://www.colegiofarmaceutico.cl/MFT/PRODUCTO/P12569.HTM#:~:text=Composici%C3%B3n%3A%20Cada%20ml%20(aprox.,y%20organol%C3%A9pticas%3A%20Ensayo%3A%20Especificaciones.)), indicadas en la primera consulta en Colombia cada 8 horas por dos meses, pero ahora la doctora me dijo que las puede usar en el día las veces que sea necesario. A continuación les muestro parte del proceso de la revisión, el cual comienza con un examen visual a través de un monitor que está en la pared frente a Alan, a una distancia aproximada de 3 metros. La doctora con un control remoto en la mano coloca letras, números, figuras y colores. El tamaño de las imágenes va variando mientras Alan está viendo e identificando, ya sabemos como es este tipo de examen. ![2.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/parauri/Ep5oEpPfaEUQLC4zmyP5qC7Fyd9qx3ZH1RUGVXgGoN6W3a2mkt8nyVMff4Ezc57KoyR.png) Alan responde acertadamente a la mayoría de las letras, números, figuras y colores pero algunas veces se equivoca, no tanto pero comete ciertos errores. Eso me sorprende mucho y el ni cuenta se da, porque el está seguro de lo que ve con sus ojos. Pero la doctora y yo nos damos cuenta sin decir nada. Ella se acerca con su teléfono y se lo coloca en las manos para que identifique otras figuras y colores, también a veces se equivoca. Como parte del examen se debe repetir el trabajo de identificación con el monitor en la pared, pero con cada ojo individualmente. ![3.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/parauri/EouAfrt6MGHrZSbLLiYFFuBosppiPQfzPhQaLD8WmgbXy46jzKFT5dV3ZcHNUmvtWK2.png) La oftalmólogo revisa los movimiento oculares con mucha precisión usando un instrumento como una especie de paleta roja. En esa evaluación, Alan debe seguir con los ojos la ubicación de la paleta mientras la doctora examina la mirada al frente, a los lados, hacia arriba y abajo. ![2.revision.gif](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/parauri/EouADekT8o9VKiyeVin2tJwUgtUrc3kHHaXtbiLVPDT6thXffueYttnFXB1C59GxCkK.gif) Finalmente llega el turno de sentarse frente al equipo grande para observar el interior del ojo y medir la presión ocular (PIO). Para la toma de la presión, previamente le colocan gotas anestésicas en los ojos. Alan ya está acostumbrado, han pasado seis meses desde que en Venezuela le diagnosticaron la hipertensión ocular y sabe todos los pasos que se hace en cada evaluación. Colabora y se queda muy tranquilo, tanto que la doctora está fascinada con él. ![4.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/parauri/EowHzUwhk9fbreKnBkPfcRcqMW8Bg5D9G3XQkcQgSqi45sebAVqJ39VUEnZQZsYbw87.png) La PIO estaba en 18/17 MM HG, es decir está bien, gracias a Dios porque los límites normales en niños son mínimo 10 y máximo 20. Además como Alan tiene la cornea gruesa se le debe rebajar 6 a esa presión, así que la tenía en 12/11 MM HG. ![5.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/parauri/Ep1YGbQKpTiWUSpr79cPyEB8st7dQtaLdny3hGECyhAuwCHB5nXaLAA7RDMCcPokdGc.png) Alan estaba feliz, se sintió optimista porque todo estaba bien. Así mismo se lo dijo a la abuela por teléfono. Aunque Alan tiene mucho tiempo con lo blanco del ojo como irritado, así como cuando lloramos, siempre se lo digo a los médicos pero todo está bien con su nervio óptico y la doctora dijo que las gotas lubricantes lo van ayudar a disminuir esa irritación en la [conjuntiva](https://medlineplus.gov/spanish/ency/article/002326.htm#:~:text=Es%20una%20membrana%20delgada%20que,del%20ojo%20se%20vea%20roja.), lo que ella llamó Conjuntiva con Leve Hiperemia Bulbar, es decir enrojecimiento en los ojos. Por tal razón me dijo que use las gotas lubricantes cada vez que sea necesario sin horario especial. Luego de la consulta, salimos con buenas noticias hasta la próxima revisión porque la expectativa que siempre tenemos es por saber como esta la presión de los ojos. ![6.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/parauri/Eonm1fbcS6HfXP5KhxSiaSVtdzio4ZznQkQH1XgBtDfHdTkBf6RWhgG7eZV1pv5znyd.png) La próxima consulta será en 5 meses y hay que llevar estudios actualizados, repetir la OCT de Nervio Óptico y además por primera vez hacerle Campos Visuales. Alan pensó en los estudio especializados, suspirando dijo, "de nuevo". Alan es de los que se angustia por todo. Le dije: no te atormentes desde ahorita hasta la fecha de la próxima consulta, tranquilo que de eso nos ocupamos con Dios por delante. Tu no te preocupes hijo, que todo hasta ahora ha salido bien y así seguirá, eso es lo más importante. Relájate porque te van a doler los ojos... Le dije que quizás es porque está muy cansado, tiene varias semanas que se levanta temprano para muchas otras diligencias médicas que hemos hecho. Pero amigos, yo sé que debo llamar a las doctoras para manifestarles ese síntoma que presentó Alan... Por ahora, no le incentivo la ansiedad y cuando me comunique con las doctoras ellas me orientaran. Thank God he does not have glaucoma, but we must be vigilant and be responsible with all medical recommendations, even more so because of the high risk that accompanies it due to the family history that my son has, first on his father's side with hyperopia and ocular hypertension and also two great aunts with glaucoma. I tell you that since we have been in Colombia, my 11 year old son has already had four ophthalmologic check-ups; two with a Pediatric Ophthalmologist and two with a Glaucamatologist or Glaucoma Specialist. The last check-up was on January 16, 2023 with the Pediatric Ophthalmologist who did a complete check-up to evaluate his eyes and especially his [IOP (Intraocular Pressure)](https://www.aao.org/salud-ocular/anatomia/la-presion-ocular). In this fourth checkup, I suddenly dared to take a few pictures thinking of my mom who is in Venezuela, to send them to her so she feels that she is accompanying her grandson, because she is always very attentive to Alan. Well until now I had not done it, taking pictures during the checkup, but I had to do it discreetly although I told the doctor that I would take a few pictures for my mom without interrupting the checkup. Besides I should be focused on the checkup, because I need to be attentive to everything they do to my son and the doctor's explanations, so the pictures were taken very, very fast, which certainly shows in some blurry or shaky images. For that reason she told me to use the lubricating drops whenever necessary without special schedule.
