The Skewed American Perspective

From Robert Higgs:

"Americans have a unique advantage in experiencing their nation's defense and foreign affairs, namely, that for the great majority such affairs take place "over there" somewhere, often in a place they can't locate on a map and about which they know approximately nothing. They don't have to smell the smoke and the decomposing bodies. They don't have to hide in holes while their homes are demolished by bombs, rockets, and artillery. Because they have so little first-hand experience, they are vulnerable to being bamboozled by what their leaders tell them about what's going on halfway around the world.

"The leaders themselves don't know much, either, notwithstanding the great sums they expend on gathering and analyzing information. But they don't need to know much, because they have great power, and even if they don't really know much about places X, Y, and Z, they can still drop bombs on those places, claim credit for protecting the American people, and hope the situation does not unravel before the next election."

War is a racket, whether overseen by Ray-Gun, Papa Bush, Clinton, Baby Bush, Obama, or Rump. The justifications are always lies. Your freedom is being trampled, not protected. You wave a flag in blissful ignorance of what other people wearing that flag are doing on the other side of the planet as innocent people are being slaughtered in your name.

Reject the security theater. The script was bad when it was new, and it hasn't aged well. Don't support the troops, unless they go AWOL. Don't blame foreigners who "hate America" under the assumption that it's somehow your tattered vestiges of freedom that offend them. Don't celebrate politicians who rattle sabers and glorify destruction.

If you're a Christian, you should be doubly ashamed, because you have no business reveling in the counterfeit glory of earthly endeavors that offend the laws of God. If our Kingdom is not of this world, what business do we have embracing the ambitions of earthly rulers? A man cannot serve two masters.
