Drinking a cup of delicious egg coffee in a taciturn space of Old Quarter is a memorable experience when visiting Hanoi.
Giang café

This café is the first place selling egg coffee from the 1940s. Because of lacking milk, people used egg instead for many cases at that time. Mr. Giang created egg coffee with special taste. This kind of drink is inspired by cappuccino.

Egg coffee is the combination of black coffee, yolk and glair. It has the best taste right after stirring condensed milk. It costs only 20,000 VND

There are two addresses of Giang café for a cup of good egg coffee. The first is on 39 Nguyen Huu Huan Street and the other one is on 106 Yen Phu Street.

Dinh café

Although it has a smaller space than Giang café, it owns a balcony with a good Hoan Kiem lake view and this spot has become the most favorite spot of many people. Dinh café is located on the second floor of the house lying on 13 Dinh Tien Hoang Street. To reach the second floor, you have to pass old steps of the house’s stair with dimmed light, but customers are very interested in.

Mrs. Bich, who is the daughter of Mr. Giang, is the owner of Dinh café. Although she was gone, the original taste of egg coffee still remain nowadays. A helpful tip for customers who haven’t drunk any cups of egg coffee is to drink it up when it’s still hot and avoid stirring too much. And it costs only 15,000 VND.

Old Quarter’s Garden café

Located in a deep small lane on 11 Hang Gai Street, this café has a mini bar to order at the first floor and the other three are for seats with panoramic lake view. This café attracts people from the deep lane, if you are not instructed, you may not realize it.

The menu is rather simple, in summer, you can order iced egg coffee, the price is much more expensive, 45,000 VND/cup but it is fuller. This café is not as delicious as those two café but it is still a good choice with beautiful view.
