So I'm planning to travel soon to Vietnam, and I've decided to learn a bit of Vietnamese to get around.
In this thread, I will be sharing some of my new knowledge. :) In this initial post I'm focusing on numbers. Also, if someone spots an error, please let me know in the comments.
Let's go.
From 0 to 10.
0 | Không |
1 | Một |
2 | Hai |
3 | Ba |
4 | Bốn |
5 | Năm |
6 | Sáu |
7 | Bảy |
8 | Tám |
9 | Chín |
10 | Mười |
As a curiosity, không is also used for verbal negations.
From 11 to 19.
This is quite straightforward. You just need to use mười (10) with the units digits that you need. For instance, 11 would be mười mot. There is an exception, though, with number 15. Instead of mười năm, it is mười lăm. The word Năm only represents number 5 itself.
From 20 to 99.
In this case, we need to prepend the number of interest to mươi. For instance, 35 would be Ba mươi lăm.
