The Ascension Cathedral was built in 1695-1700 at the expense of the outstanding Hetman Ivan Mazepa. Gradually formed a complex and ensemble of the monastery, in 1738 a college was opened. However, its wooden building burned down in 1748 and a new brick building of the college appeared in 1753-1757. In 1782, the Barbarian Church was added to the bell tower, which has not survived to this day, as it was destroyed during World War II.
