In precious posts last week, I have shown a weekend plant market in a shopping mall with many cacti on display. After lockdown has been lifted, people seemed to go crazy about buying plants. I was already surprised by the cacti craze Cacti post. Then, foliage with bright colours or beautiful patterns on leaves have also become quite popular among customers foliage post. This time I would like to show some photos of Bonsai trees on display at this market. There were only two vendors of Bonsais but their collections are quite impressive. This was the first time I saw Bonsai trees in a plant market. I had no idea that Bonsais started to become popular and attractive.
This new trend of buying Bonsai plants should be very good for people’s concentration and health. I know that keeping Bonsai used to be older people’s hobby; one of my Chinese uncles used to keep a few Bonsais. The usual image of Bonsai growers is being very patient, quiet, slow movement with no rushing about and highly focused in the present moment. It seems like a meditation process which is alien to normal people who always have to catch up with daily routine.
Perhaps keeping this Bonsai hobby would bring more peace and quiet to families and society. So, young people should be encouraged to keep Bonsai plants. This might help in their study and exam results; but I think it would be very distract them from computer games. Perhaps a virtual hobby of growing Bonsais should be developed. I could see that the Bonsai vendor had a calmer expression and more softly spoken than other plants vendors. Perhaps I should keep a Bonsai plant to improve my concentration and body-language.
There are several forms of Bonsai trees: some just look like a miniature of big oak tree, some looking like a pine shape tree, some looking like a mini forest, some looking like a fan. More special forms imitate plants growing on a cliff, on a waterfall or plants growing on a wind swept mountain. Growers must be very patient to train the branches into different designs. The result would take years to show off its amazing impact.

ที่งานมีบอนไซหลายอย่างและหลายสายพันธุ์ เราแปลกใจที่มีต้นแก้ว ต้นโพธิ์มาทำเป็นบอนไซด้วย รูปแบบก็มีหลากหลาย บางต้นก็เรียนแบบต้นไม้ใหญ่ที่มีลำต้นตรง บางกระถางก็เรียนแบบป่าละเมาะ บางต้นก็เหมือนต้นสน บางกระถางทำเหมือนต้นไม้ป่าหลายๆต้นมาอยู่ด้วยกัน ต้นไม้บางต้นเรียนแบบต้นไม้ที่ขึ้นอยู่ตามภูเขาที่มีลมแรงพัดตลอด บางต้นก็เหมือนขึ้นอยู่ข้างๆนำ้ตก กว่าที่ต้นบอนไซจะออกมาเหมือนที่ออดแบบไว้คงต้องใช้เวลาเป็นปี ฉะนั้นคนที่จะเลี้ยงต้นบอนไซจะต้องมีความใจเย็นและอดทนมาก เราคิดว่าน่าจะมีการส่งเสริมให้เด็กวัยรุ่นเล่นบอนไซ เพื่อให้มีสมาธิในการเรียนและช่วยด้านจิตใจที่สงบเยือกเย็นมากขึ้น แต่เราคิดว่าคงเป็นไปไม่ได้ ที่จะไปแยกเด็กๆจากการติดเกมส์คอมพิวเตอร์ได้
At the market, I could see small Bonsai plants for beginners to try their hands on keeping Bonsais. Some local Thai plants,which we would not think of being suitable for Bonsai techniques, were also in Bonsai pots.
