Lisbon by night: Mosteiro de Sao Vicente de Fora with statue St. Vicente

cathedral lissabon.jpgWhen you came to Lisbon for the first time, you should search for this view by night: This is the Mosteiro de Sao Vicente de Foraoster, build from 1147 in the back and a statue of St. Vicente. The name of the Monastery is "St. Vincent Outside the Walls" and it means it was outside the city of Lisbon, Portugal as it was build. It is one of the most important monasteries and mannerist buildings in the country. Today the building contains the royal pantheon of the Braganza monarchs of Portugal.

Infront of the Monastery, built in Romanesque style you can see a statue of Saint Vincent of Saragossa, patron saint of Lisbon, whose relics were brought from the Algarve to Lisbon in the 12th century.
