Sweden against the World, Covid-19 travel blog.

I have had to adjust my new years promise goal, it has not changed, and I have a decade to realize it.
I started watching and getting into “Financial Independence” movement way to late, to really reap the fruits of the longest running Bull Run market and the dividend investing.

Granted I was homeless and drunk and high most of the previous decade but either way. The start of this new decade reset everyone’s finances in some way I feel.
I have invested some into dividend stocks and a small tiny portfolio that lost 30% of the value. But most of all I did a 180 turn and jumped into staking coins more and bitcoin. I am also very exited about Hive. This is my first post here actually.
But more to follow later on that. Here is my blog about Escape from NY.

My bjj coach told me before I left, New York don’t get stuck in Sweden. I laughed.

I arrived in Sweden in late January 2020 to visit family and help with a house my brothers and me inherited. Together with my pregnant wife and 2 year old daughter.
We just left Manhattan, where we lived crammed inside a two-bedroom apartment with my mother in law that's in her 70’s. We decided that it’s better to raise our daughter part time in Sweden and paart time in USA.
On the flight although Trump was claiming that it was just flu and a fake disease, several people where in masks.
This was late January before the rest of the world had really been hit and it was not yet called a global pandemic. And the seats in the plane where all empty. So it gave it a kind of eerily feeling. Like being in a Stephen King movie.

I am currently settled in the northern parts of Sweden, which has a totally different approach to Covid-19 than USA. On one hand I am happy to be in Sweden, on the other hand I know I have to give up my green card. I been informed by the embassy that unless I make it back to the States within 6 months time I risk loosing my green card. I lived in USA the last 20 years so that's a bummer. But my wife is 30 weeks pregnant. My child is 2 years old. There are no flights leaving Sweden, and its citizens are not allowed to travel. Besides USA is on lockdown, not for me with a green card but I have to get to Paris, find a flight to one of the designated airports, then make my way to NYC which is a hotspot. To report to an immigration center that is not open right now.

It seems little to risky and hard. And my wife is not travelling at this time.
So I will have to stay put. Life and love over politics.

Speaking of politics, Sweden’s response to covid-19 is one of capitulation as well as realization. Very Swedish, the country des not have the framework, the manpower or muscle to enforce a strict lockdown. As well as the government realize that a vaccine is the only hope. Besides Sweden has a socialistic country over individual society. Its easy for the country to trust and go along with the government, Swedes are raised in a environment and culture where the leaders work for the good of all opposed to the good of themselves.

It's a stark contrast to USA where I spent most my adult life. Individuality and personal success is looked upon with envy unless it benefits the whole. Versus USA when its looked upon with awe.
It leaves me to wonder about politicians and businessmen in Sweden, or so called high performance people. If you need to have a bit of sociopath or psychopath to become a top lawyer, CEO or politician. How does that “ jell” with a socialistic and trusting society as Sweden? In USA most people believe and think that the politicians, lawyers and CEO are in it for their own gain and their own families gain. No filters or illusions. Now in Sweden the general public totally trust these politicians, can’t believe that they are in it for personal gain or that CEO are greedy. Contrary to their high salaries, tax-free status and scandals. It’s fascinating to see.

So when Sweden goes against WHO, the world and commons sense. The people go along, it’s truly a cultural marvel to see. I for one am happy that I can move around freely. I just go to gym when no one is around; I avoid people, and try to keep high hand hygiene. Sweden has already changed due to Covid-19 as the rest of the world. But I believe Sweden will have a leg up now that restrictions go lighter, since we have population that basically have “trained” to live in this new world. What do you guys think? What kind of measures are you guys taking?
