Traveling Through Abuja The Federal Capital Territory of NIGERIA Touring ZUMA ROCK

Zuma Rock.jpgZuma Rock, the monolithic single rock with a human face, is located off Madalla, in the state of Niger, north of Abuja.

The rock was once described as the undisputed guardian of the F.C.T.

It is the concealment of sand that hangs like a haze on the city of Zuba. The other mountains in and around it remain very distant, which the Zuba consider as a form of respect that the other mountains grant to Zuma Rock for its royal presence in the locality.

Zuma Rock was first located in a thick forest by the inhabitants of Zuba and Koro in the 15th century, when they settled around the Rock. The Zuba called the rock "Zumwa", which means "the place of capture of guinea fowl". Thus, the name "Zuma" is derived from this name.

Zuma Rock is a very popular monument in Nigeria. It has a circumference of 3.1 kilometers and stands at a height of about 725 meters above the surrounding area, which is more than the combined height of Aso Rock and Olumo Rock.

At the time of the FCT split, it was well known that the physical limit of the FCT was dissecting the rock, with most falling in the state of Niger and the smallest part in the FCT. Therefore, geographically it is between the state of Niger and the FCT, Abuja

Zuma is represented on the ticket of 100 naira note. It was used for a defensive retreat by the Gbagyi people against the invasion of neighboring tribes during the inter-tribal conflict.Zuma Rock.jpg
