Una bota nueva y reluciente [ESP] // [ENG] A shiny new boot || OPINION

Although I prefer baseball over soccer, the king of sports also calls our interest. And it has to do with our childhood days: our father was an assiduous soccer spectator and suffered like everyone else that time when the "Vinotinto" was the Cinderella of South America (will it still be?). The fact is that the World Cup was a fixed image in our home, every time it took place. I used to hate soccer, but with time I got to like it.

And it was then that we learned the styles of play of each team: England on the wings and crosses to the pot; Germany long and precise touches, plus providential sweeps; Holland touches and prodigal soccer and Italy defense and counter-attack, just to mention some styles of play of the '70s and '80s.

I always liked Germany's style, but today's topic has to do with what has happened to Italy. It has changed. And a lot. Changed for the better for them and for soccer. I mean, yesterday, when we watched the game in the first half for some reason I thought it would be more of the same. To be fair, the Turkish walls didn't let anything through.

And then came the second half and it was like thinking I had been watching the act of a cripple who has lived his whole life sitting in a wheelchair, to give way to a second act where the man gets up from it and starts walking to signify the deception to which his relations have been subjected all along.

The "Azurra" literally ran over Turkey and I asked myself when did it all happen? And that's when I started to listen to the TV commentators talking about the work that coach Mancini has been doing in the new Italy, about the unbeaten run of the Italian team and about the change of mentality, as well as the style of the national team.

And I must confess: I didn't know why? Well, as you can imagine, I follow baseball more than soccer. But I have immense sympathy for the Italian community and witnessing that yesterday made me feel immense joy for them. That was soccer, but real soccer. Not petty soccer like the one they played in those years. And there is nothing more pleasant than to see such a change.

Something similar to what Joachim Low did with Germany, but multiplied by two. Or what they did with England, which is still a little short. The truth: I got ingratiated with soccer in an unsuspected way. And I say to all my readers The favorite, apart from France for me? This shiny Italian boot.

P.S. English is not my native language, apologize for that.
