Sweden's most beautiful places

A new survey of 2,500 Swedes reveals opinions on the most beautiful places places in Sweden.

The medieval city wall in Visby was considered the country's loveliest building, and Drottningholm Palace (pictured above) came second. Halland on the south-west coast was ranked as Sweden's most beautiful county.

Beautiful counties

When asked to consider "is the town or place I live in beautiful?" respondents answered "yes" in the following top ten counties:

  • 62% Halland
  • 59% Stockholm
  • 54% Örebro
  • 52% Jönköping
  • 50% Skåne
  • 48% Uppsala
  • 43% Västra Götaland
  • 37% Östergötland
  • 37% Västerbotten
  • 29% Södermanland

Beautiful buildings

Other favourite beautiful buildings were as follows.

Stockholm City Hall - This magnificent red-brick structure stands proudly on the shores of Riddarfjärden and plays host each year to the Nobel Prize banquet.

The High Coast Bridge - Sweden’s High Coast is a stunning place to visit and this nearly 20-year-old suspension bridge serves as a worthy gateway.

Uppsala Cathedral - First built in the 13th century the cathedral, which has undergone several restorations since then, looms impressively over the popular university city.
