The Time We Found A Hidden Gem While Exploring Randomly

Exploring The Suburban Areas

As humans, I believe exploration is in our genes, we are inherently curious and most of us become itchy and agitated when we are locked up at home for say, a quarantine. We want to be out and stimulated by new things, escape the monotony of normalities. Of course some prefer stability and the reliability of their comfort zones. For someone like me who prefers the prior, I just get in the car and drive around my country trying to find new places and new things! Many times I meet new people and actually find extremely intriguing and new places, little hidden gems that no one knows or talks about or maybe they know but they just don’t appreciate it!

My girlfriend and I decided to head to a town called Marabella and drive around in areas we’ve never been to and have not seen before. The sun was setting and the sky was beginning to take on that beautiful orange hue which we paid no attention to as we explored new territory. While in one of the empty back roads, we found a cool house with lots of plants and flowers. In the photo below you can see my girlfriend who literally had me stop the car so she could go pick some of the people’s flowers which were bougainvillea I believe.

We drove further again and we had not noticed but we were heading westwards closer and closer to the shoreline. Marabella is somewhat of a suburban area with no imagery of the ocean or the sea and so you would not expect to see what we saw next. We came across this empty park-like area with swings and a lookout towards the ocean! It was such a hit in the face like no one expects or really sees the ocean when in Marabella due to how the urban planning was done!

It was much like an oasis in a dessert, a little tiny window to the sea amidst the settlements. There were even coconut trees that flanked the both sides of the lookout and the swings were well placed you one could sit and enjoy the ocean view! I tried to take a panorama with my phone and it came out a little wonky but it still gives you that idea of what I mean!

It was so picture perfect because the sun was just setting and the coconut trees and the boat that was way out in the ocean made for an awesome composition. The hues and clouds in the sky that reflected in the water was so breathtaking.

The colours just kept getting even more beutiful as the evening progressed!
We sat on the swings and enjoyed the view until the twilight turned into the night and the exploration was truly worth. This was one of the few times we actually found an awesome hidden gem. I would not have expected to find a literal front row seat to the sunset at an OCEAN FRONT in the midst of where we were!
