There is an 18 years old girl, called DU LINIANG. She is beautiful and smart .It is spring ,Miss DU is playing in the garden .It is warm there, trees are green , The flowers are now blooming in all their splendor. Everything in the garden is flourishing, that makes her happy at first. But suddenly, she feels sad. They are beautiful now, but as time goes by, they will fade. And so do I. Be old, but never meet true love. This thinking makes her upset, go back to her room and falls asleep leaned on the table. In a few moments, she sees a young scholar in the garden outside of her window. This young man is handsome and seems smart. He picks a fresh willow branch, goes toward her window and invites her to stroll about the garden together. Miss DU is so happy and goes with him.
Miss DU just feels that what he says is sweet and intelligent. And so does the young man. They sing and dance there and fall in love with each other. They kiss, huge and have sex with each other in the garden. When the girl feels incredible comfortable and happy, suddenly, she hears her mother’s calling. And then she wakes up with a start, find that all just happened is just in the dream.
From that day, Miss DU misses the young man in the whole day. She misses his sweet words, gentle smile, tender touching and so on. She feels that the missing of him and the sexual passion about him are burning her. She can’t escape from that and becomes sick. Miss DU is weaker day by day. She draws a self-portrait to record the beauty of herself. Finally, Miss DU dies for her love in the dream. Before dying, she asks her mother to bury her body under the plum tree in the garden which she likes when she dies. After she dies, her family follow her asking and then leave the house that they lose their daughter.
One year later, a new family moves to this house. They have a son called Liu DreamPlum, 19 years old. One day, young Liu finds a portrait about a pretty girl in a corner of his room. The girl in the drawing is so beautiful, so he hangs the portrait in his room. From this day, he always sees the drawing with smile. He has a strange feeling that this girl is familiar to him. On early morning, the sun and most of people are still sleeping, the girl wakes up and says goodbye to the young man. Young man asks her who is her, and she just says that she is the daughter nearby, she feels shy and begs young man don’t tell others what happens tonight. Young man promises her.
From that day. The girl comes for dating and has sex with the young man every night. The young man loves her so much that feels more and more curious about her. But each time he asks her, she just says that she is a daughter nearby. Several days later, the young man feels a little angry. He says to the girl that I really love you, if you tell me about your family I can beg your parents let us get marry, and then we can live together forever. She also feels guilty about him, so decides to tell him the truth. In fact, the girl is soul of Miss DU. She tells him how she met him in dream and died for love to him. The young man feels scared about this case at first, but he feels touched about her love to himself finally.
The young man feels sad for her dead. He hugs her, kisses her, and swears still love her, even love her more. But he feels a little confused and asks, you are a ghost but why you are so warm. She says, my lust and love to you is protecting my body from perishing. But now I already got your love and told you all the truth, the spell no longer has any effect. The young man so regrets forcing her to tell him the truth. He asks the girl how could him protect her. She says, there still is one way, if she can go back to her body at the moment of sunrise today, she can revive. If not, she will disappear forever. The young man jumps up and run to the plum tree as fast as he can. And digs the coffin out as fast as he can. Finally he succeeds in digging the coffin out before the sunrise. He feels nervous when the first ray of the sunlight shines on the girl, because he may lose her forever. When her body begins breathing, the young man can’t stop his tears.
