This was my last phone. I had dropped it so many times and was still able to use it despite the missing glass at the bottom. Unfortunately it fell in some soapy water and I was without a phone for a few weeks. I have other phones That work That I have rescued from being added to landfills I could use but I thought I needed a new sim chip.
I decided after about three weeks and while waiting for a new sim card to arrive in the mail (it never came) I was going to take this phones sim and put it in another phone. Surprisingly it worked. Of course I had to activate the phone. I then wanted to know how I could open the dead phone up to see the inside.
For anyone who has not been out of touch with the tech world, we all know it is getting to the point where we can no longer remove the back cover. Well this is one of the first phones I have had that I could not do that to and I had seen people on youtube using hot air guns. They look like hair dryers only they get A LOT hotter.
Since I do not have any electronic tools outside of a screw bit kit I had to rely on another way. I took it to the kitchen and held it above the burner to heat it up and maybe loosen whatever adhesive held it on. Of course in order to actually remove the back I needed a tool I could slide along the edge to loosen the back cover more.
Yes, I know doing this is not safe but it worked and life itself is not without risk.
I can not understand why, once you purchase something it still does not belong entirely to you. I will not accept this and intend on playing with electronics to learn and maybe teach what I learn to others. We need to start removing items that can be turned into something else from landfills.
This is not a complete breakdown of this phone as I am still trying to figure out how to get the battery out but I look forward to getting to the inner parts.
While I come up with ideas for what parts can be used for what I will also be looking in to how the micro controllers work. What languages are they programmed with and how that programming can be changed.
My intention is to make what I learn about this topic as simple to understand as possible. I think we as a species should strive to collaborate more than compete. Creativity does not come in limited supply.
