In the world of education, one way to be smart and broad-minded is by reading books. However, as an Indonesian, I am very aware that most people do not like reading that may be caused by a lack of habituation from childhood so that they will be lazy to read because it is still new to him.
In this case, parents play an important role in increasing the reading interest of children because every child is educated directly and indirectly from his parents. Every step taken by the parents will greatly affect the interests of the children even though the steps look simple. As a father and also an educator, I have begun to take simple steps so that my children will have an interest in reading. The following steps may be you can try and will definitely give a significant impact.
In leisure, parents should try to spend time by reading stories to children and it is a fun activity and has a very positive impact on the child's brain development. As they listen to the story, their brain development is going through a period of positive improvement. Also, when they see their parents telling stories, they certainly have an interest in knowing the connection of the next story. In the end, they will try to read it themselves and unknowingly they have started to like reading.
Birthday is one of the happiest moments for anyone including children. At that special day, they expect various gifts from their parents. As parents, we must make the birthday a moment to give some interesting story books. In addition, writing beautiful words or advice at the beginning of the book will also have a positive impact on their emotions and surely they will love us (parents) more and books that we give.
In addition to telling stories about fairy tales, telling about great people like inventors or famous people around the world for their persistence in reading will also greatly affect the interest of children in reading. When they hear about the greatness of that people, then the children will be interested in and want to become like them so that the children will automatically prefer to read because the key to success of those successful people is reading.
Taking children to bookstores is one of the ways to introduce good and interesting books to children. When they are in a bookstore, they can see a variety of interesting books according to their will directly. Surely, the books that they have chosen will be read at home because they are very curious about the outer appearance and the title of the books chooses themselves. Without realizing it, their interest in reading books is increasing day by day.
A library is a storehouse of science where there are various books that can be read by anyone and with any purpose. In addition, in a library, there are many people who read books and are busy digging knowledge through reading. When a child is invited by his parents to a library, the child can directly see that there are so many people love reading and exploring knowledge by reading. At that time, children will realize that reading is one of the favorite activities and the children will be more active in reading because he believes that reading is one of the attracting activities and most of the people love it as seen in the library.
