Cashmere
source
This sweater is a sample of a "cashmere" material apparel and its current price is 258 Euros or $307. What makes these clothings expensive?
source
The cashmere is a goat. Originally it lived in the Valley of Kashmir and in the Himalaya Mountains. They can now be found in both China and Tibet. The goat is short-legged, horned, and graceful.
Cashmeres are valued for their fine, thick undercoats. The undercoat is combed out and used to make wool. Expensive sweaters, coats, and shawls are made from the wool.
What makes cashmere goods expensive?
Aside from being rare and expensive, one cashmere goat does not produce a lot of fiber. Actually, about four goats will be needed to make one sweater, and the undercoats of these cashmeres can only be harvested once a year. The undercoats are meant to be separated from the outer layer of the hair so the average goat can only produce about six to eight ounces of undercoat and when it's processed it will be reduced up to more than half of the quantity you harvested.
These goats belong to the cattle family bovidae. They are cud chewers and grazers. Relatives are sheep and antelopes.
