Steemit Culinary Challenge #33 "NEWBIE SPECIAL!" - Winners & New Theme - All Newbies Welcome for SBD Prizes!

Much gratitude goes to last week's guest judge @rebeccaryan for our very exciting "Picnic Alfresco" theme!  This theme was so fun I even had a picnic myself... in the forest... in the rain.  Ha ha.  (Post and photos to come!)  As you're probably aware I was expecting stacks of entries (and got worried we wouldn't have enough) but as it turned out we had 6 entries altogether, and this week EVERYONE GOES HOME WITH A PRIZE!  Very kindly @rebeccaryan surprised me with her decision to sponsor two additional 5 SBD bonus prizes for this theme, as she felt everyone had put in so much effort that rewards were deserved all-round!  So well done to all participants... we hope you'll be happy with your prizes!

I just want to take a moment to say how much I appreciated the effort @rebeccaryan put into choosing the theme and guidelines, and also for doing such a wonderful accompanying post about her chosen theme.  For those of you not yet familiar with her, you'll soon discover that whenever you encounter @rebeccaryan you will find her warm, friendly, honest, conscientious... Her food is wonderful, which you'll see for yourselves - she often travels miles to source ingredients and is very supportive of local farmers and community.  But her talents are not limited to food, no, she is a medical cannabis coach, massage therapist and also makes and sells natural personal-care products.  She's way more interested in sharing knowledge and experience than making money here, as am I and many others you're yet to meet :-)

Now, since Steemit has recently gone crazy with an influx of new members, I decided to host a "Newbie Special" this week.  Sorry to all the 'oldies' but this round is for the 'newbies' only!  If you joined in May, June or July (I know it's not July yet but it will be before the deadline is up!) then you will be counted as a 'newbie' and you can submit your entries.  There are THREE PRIZES for this week's special round... the 1st prize is 10 SBD sponsored by @haphazard-hstead, who is celebrating having recently become a 'dolphin' and is feeling generous!  The second prize is for the 'Most Creative Entry' 5 SBD sponsored by @englishtchrivy.  The third prize is for the 'Most Colourful Food' 5 SBD sponsored by @rouketas.  Prizes will be chosen and awarded by the respective sponsors.  Scroll down for more info and theme for the "Newbie Special".

Those of you still awaiting prizes for SCC #29-32 - you are not forgotten and will receive your prizes as soon as I track down @smooth and @sirwinchester!  You're probably aware they have been difficult to get hold of a few times before, but they have ALWAYS paid up and honoured their commitment to the challenge.  Please continue to be patient... I am not a detective or God and don't always know their whereabouts, but I'm working on it!!!

For those of you who have never entered this challenge before - it's very easy, just SCROLL DOWN for this week's THEME, RULES and PRIZES.  You don't have to be a master chef - just try to be creative with your recipes and take beautiful photos, since unfortunately we can't taste the entries so you must help us do this with our imaginations!  Original recipes are encouraged, but you may use someone else's recipe as long as you credit the original source.

Bonus prize "Pesto Toast with Strawberry and Mini Mozzarela" by ikaputri3 5 SBD sponsored by @rebeccaryan

@rebeccaryan comments: "I loved that you talked about the strawberries coming from just over 50 kms away from where you live. I thought your presentation, use of fresh home-grown herbs and your photography was exceptionally professional. A nice clean post that is easy on the eyes."

Bonus prize "Delicious Falafel for a perfect picnic" 5 SBD sponsored by @rebeccaryan

@rebeccaryan comments: "Your recipe for falafels is wonderful. I appreciated all the tips you offered, like chilling the chickpea mixture for 2 hours, making sure your hands are wet when you shape the falafels and what to do if they split apart as you are frying them. Great food shots."

Most Creative Entry Prize "Picnic in the garden with bear burger and more" by @emilymichelle 5 SBD sponsored by @englishtchrivy

4th prize "Tropics and Picnic... when a cheeky monkey steals your lunch" by @amy-goodrich 5 SBD sponsored by @sirwinchester

@rebeccaryan comments:  "Your photography and recipe development are second to none. OMG! the monkey... I owe you danger pay for the culinary feat you pulled off this week. I can't stop laughing when I think about it!"

3rd Prize "Picnic Al Fresco or  all'aperto Meal. Paleo-Raw Vegan Food" by @tioluis 10 SBD sponsored by @smooth

@rebeccaryan comments:  Your love for your soon-to-be-Bride, good food and romance shone brightly in your offerings! Great photos. Basket, blanket, food selections and attention to detail really stood out to me. For a new SCC participant, I felt you went above and beyond and then some. You definitely understand the "over delivering" or pushing one's self to a higher level of  excellence."

2nd Prize "Mediterranean Outdoors Grande Bouffe with bikini bottom burger!!" by @rouketas 15 SBD sponsored by @smooth

@rebeccaryan comments:  "Your use of local and seasonal ingredients was very evident. I really liked the flavour and texture combination that you put together with the mint, feta, watermelon salad and fresh figs on a pizza. Your use of an empty honey comb for your dessert presentation was truly inventive and visually stunning."

1st Prize "Picnic in the garden with bear burger and more" by @emilymichelle 25 SBD sponsored by @smooth

@rebeccaryan comments:  "Your teddy bear burgers win! You met all the criteria and your photography should be in a Family magazine. Your food presentation was outstanding!"

Prizes will be transferred directly to your wallets by the respective sponsors.  Please note: the sponsors are not always able to pay straight away - it can take days or occasionally even weeks, so please be understanding about this.  But they have never let us down so be assured they always catch up with payments as soon as they can!

First of all I would like to welcome all of you to Steemit, in particular to our little 'foodie corner' we have here within the larger Steemit community.  Stick around and you're guaranteed to meet some great people and see some amazing food.  Not only that but many of us try to encourage choices for good health, and so you'll likely learn LOTS too!

The Steemit Culinary Challenge has been going for a good while now (see here for a bit about its history), and prior to hosting I took part myself most weeks.  Since becoming aware of real food vs fake food (anything processed, refined, containing artificial ingredients, GMOs etc) and suffering the ill-effects of a toxic diet for a long time, health and food went right up my list of priorities.  By switching to only natural and nourishing food I bid farewell to the symptoms of fibromayalgia and IBS (see here for this story).  Without stock cubes, instant gravy, sauces, dressings, etc I had to start making many more things from scratch... and thus began my love of creative cooking!  If you get chance to nosey at my blog you'll see I try to be inventive and use ingredients in unconventional ways.  So when I joined Steemit and was invited by the previous SCC host @englishtchrivy to join in, I found myself and my food welcomed with open arms by so many people, and the challenge became sooooo much more than a chance for a prize.  I was super motivated to create the best recipes and presentations I could think of, and looked forward to the thrill of everyone's support and feedback.

And I'm not the only one with a place in my heart for the SCC... @haphazard-hstead - the guest judge and sponsor of this week's special - has also been a regular participant in the challenge and has got much more out of it than just money.  But she's had her fair share of prizes too - check out her blog if you haven't already for some extraordinary and inspiring foraged food!  It's all wild and wonderful over there!  As I mentioned above @haphazard-hstead is in celebration mode, and in addition to sponsoring this newbie prize, she's having a 'Dolphin Party' and has all kinds of contests and prizes in the mix... You should definitely check it out!  The theme @haphazard-hstead has chosen for this week is nice and broad, so let your creativity take you where it will...

You may use any kind of berries for this - fresh, frozen, store-bought, homegrown, wild... @haphazard-hstead says she's partial to wild, but understands not everyone has the same season so don't worry if there's none for you to forage for!  No poison berries though, an SCC fatality would just about ruin any Dolphin Party haha!  You can make anything you like with your berries, food or drink, hot, cold, raw, cooked, whatever.  I'm aware that the botanical definition of berries include things like bananas and eggplant, which seems odd but true! and if you want to be smart and use any of these, well, that's fine too!  Any queries about the kind of berries you're thinking of using just ask me, or better yet ask haphazard as she's the expert really!  We can both be found on Steemit Chat too.

Before you rush off to your kitchens, please take a couple of minutes to check to rules below.  If you have any trouble signing up or posting on Chat, don't worry, it's been a bit funny lately so you won't be disqualified for not posting your entry there.

I also want to make sure you're aware I'm having a competition for TWO NEW LOGO DESIGNS and offering prizes for this.  Please check out my post here for details.
