Evaluation of "Steem Upvote Bot" Chrome Extension

I was very excited to test out the Steemit Platform Switcher, developed by @kenchung (which also led him to his first over $1k post, congratulations!). I didn't realized there was a link in his post to download the extension so I went direct to Chrome's Web Store and search for the extension.

In this process, I came across another interesting extension called "Steem Upvote Bot", developed by @heimindanger. By just looking at the name of it, my gut feeling was that it would do what an upvote bot in Steemit should do:

automatically upvote specific author's posts according to pre-set rules.

"Bingo, isn't it the thing I am looking for now?"

No coding needed, no Steemvoter.com restrictions, pretty cool, right? So I right the way downloaded and installed it on my Chrome.

Installation

  • In Chrome Web Store, search "Steem", you should get this:Steem_upvote_bot_big.png

  • Click on "+ ADD TO CHROME" button of Steem Upvote Bot, then click "Add extension"Steem_upvote_bot_install.png

  • You should see this : Steem_upvote_bot_install_done.png

Now you're ready to setup your first Upvote bot!

Configuration

At right side of Chrome tool bar, find icon of Steem Upvote Bot, right click to show the menu. Select "Options" Steem_upvote_bot_menu.png

In the configuration page:

  • There are many items you can set, the most obvious one is the first one "Bot always upvotes this list of authors", and I put in my username in order to test it out.
  • The next value I set was "Never Upvote Before X minutes", I put in 5 minutes for testing purpose.
  • The other options, to be very honest with you, I was not very sure about what they mean. I tried to find a user guide but failed. So I just randomly put in some values and kept most of them in their default value.

Then I decided to give it a try. I saved the configuration and exit.

And click on its icon to turn it on, indicated by an orange color icon: Steem_upvote_bot_Turn_ON.png

Result

I left Steemit.com page opened and waited for more than 10 mins. Nothing happened. I turned off the extension and turned it on again and waited for another 10 mins. This time, I realized some of my old comments were upvoted by myself (Thanks to eSteem apps that I got notification on my iPhone when my posts or comments are upvoted).

So I thought "At least it was working." Then I went back to Configuration page and checked "Vote History" section at the bottom of the page:

Steem_upvote_bot_History_2.png

After first, there were only the last 4 records, which were not even my posts or comments. After reloading many times, I finally got the whole list with the first 3 items are my comments.

I verified them, and found that the history list might got some problem that it showed items that were not voted by the extension bot, but at least the first 3 items were voted by it.

With this I would like to conclude that:

"Steem Upvote Bot" Chorme extension works with bugs to be fixed

And here are items to be fixed or improved:

  1. The voting power was at 100% which is not preferred after HF19. It should be configurable.
  2. Clear explanations of each configuration items should be provided, either in the "Configuration" page or in a separated user guide.
  3. "Page refresh", "Scroll to bottom" functions may need to be re-accessed. It may prevent the user from scrolling the page (unless it is by design that after turned on the bot, user should not access Chrome anymore)
  4. "Vote History" bug should be fixed.

Welcome to comment and correct me if I am wrong about anything.

Please upvote and resteem if you find this post useful. Thank you very much!!!
