“This man is not entirely human!” Tessaria gasped looking to the Bear.
A hush fell upon the cell, as everyone turned to the Elvin healer in stunned silence.
Bear drew his oversized mace. “What do you mean, not entirely human?”
Tessaria’s eyes fell on the spiked weapon and frowned. “Put that away…” She said in her soft gentle voice. “Would you destroy the only one who can save us now?” She asked in a scornful tone.

The large warrior blushed, but his stance did not change. “I am just doing my job Lady Tessa. I have to ensure the safety of the foundry.” He explained in a softer tone and somewhat embarrassed.
“I understand…” She said softly.
“So, what to you mean by not entirely human? Does he pose a danger?” Bear asked calmly.
She shook her head. “No… He poses no danger.” She returned her attention to Slak Tor and once again placed her hands on his head closing her eyes. After a few moments she spoke.
“The darts used to capture him should have killed him long ago…” She placed a hand on his forehead. “He is highly allergic to the compound used in the darts, but his dragon half keeps him alive…” She reported.
“Then why is he dying?” Sir Bentley asked urgently.
“He is more human than dragon and the poison takes its toll.” She explained.

“Can you save him?” Bear asked cautiously.
She slowly nodded. “I will try… Death has not gripped him just yet.” She moved her hand from his forehead back to his cheek and began to chant in faint whispers.
All in the room watched as her hands began to glow in a silvery light.
A few moments passed and she moved one glowing hand over his heart. Her eyes were closed as she tilted her head back in deep concentration when Slack Tor suddenly gasped or breath.
She looked down at him as he coughed and opened his eyes.

Still foggy from his slumber, the first sight he saw was a very beautiful woman hovering above him. He could feel her soft warm hand against his cheek and he met her emerald gaze.
“Who… Where…” He stuttered in confusion.

She smiled down at him. “I am Tessaria and you are in The Foundry.” She answered.
He tried to rise to a sitting position, but the Elvin woman pressed against his chest. “Easy!” She cautioned. “You are still week and will require my assistance until you recover.”
“We were captured.” His tone became angry.
“Yes…” She said gently, but still pressed against his chest. “But you and the others are being freed. Even now, you friends speak to Lord and Lady Vulcan.” She assured him.
He turned his head to see First Mate D and Sir Bentley. Both nodded and showed their hands free of any bindings. Then he saw the guards and focused on the huge warrior. “And them?” He asked, his voice still untrusting.

“Bear and the guards were sent to free you by order of the Vulcans. Relax and try to regain your strength. You are safe.” Her silken voice as convincing, seeing the nods from his friends confirmed her words, but something wasn’t right.
He met her eyes again, his own terrified.
“Tarakona!” He said urgently. “I can’t hear him! He can’t hear me!” He exclaimed.
“That’s the problem…” The huge warrior blurted. “Your dragon has melted our outer gate and even now tries to batter down the inner gate. Can you call him off?” Bear asked impatiently.
He looked to D and Sir Bentley again, both nodded in agreement that the large man spoke the truth. “Let me try.” Slack Tor closed his eyes a moment and opened them.

Tessaria gasped in surprise at the site of luminous blue eyes with slits for pupils, but then became curious about his power.
Slak Tor shook his head and his eyes returned to normal in a blink.
“I can’t reach him. Something about the mountain shields me from him.” He explained in a weakened voice.
“Alright! Enough talk.” Bear growled and motioned to the guards. “Free him of his chains and take these two to join his friend.” He ordered pointing at D and Bentley.
Tessaria suddenly rounded on the large man, her eyes flashing in anger.
“Now you just wait!” She said dangerously. “He is still very week and needs me to help him recover!” She said urgently. “You may be head of security, but he is my charge now and I will not let you kill him just to be hasty!”
The guards froze looking to Bear for instruction.
“Tessa…” Bear said undaunted by her sudden flash of anger. “If we don’t get him to the inner gate and fast, a lot of people are going to die.” He sighed. “I will carry him there, if need be, but we need to move now.”
“He is right Tessaria. Tarakona won’t stop until he knows I am alive and well… Unharmed. If he breaches the gate, he will destroy everything he sees until he finds me.” He explained. “As a healer, you can understand Bear’s urgency.”
She sighed and nodded. “I do… But I must remain at your side, helping you heal until you can recover on your own.” She glanced back to the warrior. “And that is not up for debate, Bear!” She added.
“Very well…” He motioned to the guards to continue. He watched as the dragon master was freed from his shackles.
“No go ahead, take this man and the big rabbit to the Great Hall to join their friends. I will personally take Slak Tor and Tessa to the gate.”

“Come on, as fast as you can go!” Bear urged as they moved down the hallway.
The dragon master nodded, but looked tired.
“Take my hand.” Tessaria held out a slender arm. “Come on, I don’t bite.” She mused. “I will continue to heal you along the way, but I must touch you to do so.” She explained.
Slak Tor nodded and took her hand. “I just didn’t wish to disrespect a lady.” He smiled.
“She offered!” Bear blurted sarcastically and shook his head. “What a ladies man…” He mumbled and began leading them towards the great forge.
Slak Tor’s face fell in embarrassment and felt Tessaria squeeze his hand.
“Its alright, you are an honorable man.” She chuckled. “Don’t mind him.”
They entered the colossal chamber in the heart of the mountain with the giant crucibles and pools of molten metals.
Slak Tor stopped and stared about the massive space open mouthed. “The island is called The Foundry, but I had no idea!” He said in awe.

“I would normally give a guest a tour, but a pissed off dragon is pressing us for time!” Bear reminded bluntly.
“Of course, lets go, but this is very impressive!” Slak Tor turned his gaze to the large man’s back and began to follow.
“I am glad you like it.” Bear said in low grumble, but with a hint of pride.
It seemed like an eternity to reach the inner gate. Crossing the great forge was a trek in itself, but the giant door now colored in reds, purples and deep blues after cooling from nearly melting was now in sight. The tunnel was repeatedly filled with deafening booms from the dragon’s efforts to batter it down.
“Can you reach him now?” Tessaria asked in her silken voice.
“Let me try.”
Slak Tor closed his dark green eyes for a moment and when they opened, they had returned to their luminous blue with slits for pupils.
Tessaria starred in wonderment at the transformation, but did not release his hand.
“Tarakona…” The dragon master spoke.
The thunderous bangs against the buckling gate ceased.
“I am alive and well.” Slak Tor assured, but his expression became dark.
“What is it? Whats wrong?” Tessaira asked in a whisper.
“He senses my weakness, he knows I am not well…”
A muffled roar of pure fury echoed through the corridor through the heavy door.
“Quick! Everyone back up!”
“But…” Bear began.
“No time!! Move!” Slak Tor yelled finding new strength. He hooked an arm around the elf’s waist and ushered her quickly forward.
Bear forgot his question and followed.

Cornelius looked up at the sudden silence and saw that Tarakona just stared at the battered gate. The huge dragon was motionless as if a stone statue.
“What’t going on?” He asked no one in particular.
Lady Ravenhill, flipping a shuriken between her delicate fingers, turned her attention to the huge beast and simply shook her head. However, she knew something was happening and she stood, readying herself for battle.
Cornelius drew his sword when he heard the familiar breathy sound rising in pitch. “He’s gonna melt it down!” He exclaimed. “I thought you said he had a plan!”
Lady Ravenhill shrugged her shoulders, but her eyes never left the entrance.
Tarakona arched his neck and then lunged forward letting loose another jet of flame. The stone along the outer edges of the entrance began to glow and droop as the remnants of the outer gate collected in white hot boiling pools on the ground.
The inner gate quickly began to glow, small beads began to form and run down its length as if pelted by rain.

Bear took a protective stance between door and the dragon master and his charges, as he hefted his oversized mace.
The sealed portal began to glow and quickly changed to red, to orange, to white. The first tongues of flame breached the melting door and soon he stared at Tarakona’s spiked and scaley head.
The beast didn’t wait for the entrance to cool. Rather, it extended its neck into the tunnel and terrifying sapphire eyes found him. A deep low growl echoed around him, but he stood his ground. “I mean you no harm.” Bear offered in a calm tone only slightly tainted with fear.
It snarled at him baring its needle sharp teeth and the sunlight from the entrance was blotted out as it unfolded its wings.
Bear could feel his long hair and beard shifting forward as the massive creature drew began to draw another breath.
