Open Monument Day : A 500 year old farm

Dear Hivers,

This weekend is Open monument day(s) in the Netherlands whihc gives you the opportunity to enter that very old building you drive by already for years but have never seen upclose.

So at 10 a.m. my wife and I went to the participating farmhouse House Koddestein (pronounce: god-uh-stine) some 3 km from my house in a straight line.

The front is what you see normally from the road side but today we were toured around a little and inside. Not the private rooms though.

The farm is build in 1565 and one of the oldest of the village. The very unusual third floor was to impress others most likely as no floor existed.
Also very unusual is that the right smaller side of the building was for the "hand" to live in. In that time rich and poor did not live next to eachother. (still the case ?)

Now the farm is not in use anymore and a 3rd internal floor is made.

Due to the high ceiling of the house the connection to the stables has a strange "knick" or "bend" not sure what the English word in use is. See for yourself.

The older man on the above picture was the former owner who left 5 years ago and now was visiting the farm once more with his wife.

I think it was good they locked their Mechelse Sheppard away for these two days.

We lvoed seeing the house and after half an hour we were on our way for the normal hassle of Saturday.... shopping and stuff

Enjoy the pics all taken by my wife
