Happy weekend everyone, for this weekend I'll share our visit to my Aunt Cecilia, she is the second to youngest sibling of my mother.
We were preparing food for lunch and we are about to cook it, then a text message came saying " umay kayu kanu balay , ada jay pising nga request mo ken mami". It's my cousins text message saying, Come here mom cooked you request gabi ( it is a viand from the stem of taro in our locality its called pising ,in tagalog gabi).
Every time we visit my aunt even unannounced this is always our request to her, I jokingly said that she cook gabi one time and we will come. I didn't know she took it seriously. That's why I'm surprised when my cousin texted me. So after I received the message we immediately went to her house and we brought a two 1.5 liter of freezing cold Coca -Cola, you'll know why. By the way, her house is just seven minutes drive from our house.
When we arrived at her house she is almost done cooking the "pising" so we strolled around first. There we saw her yard. there are papayas, peas , bananas and her pets .
This banana is almost ready to be harvested, just a week or two more this will turn into a sweet dessert.
She has this pea all around her house, this things make living in the rural area more sustainable and since we have unlimited water, it's a big advantage for us to grow our own vegetables.
Papaya is a very abundant plant in our place. It has many uses, you can add it on chicken soup, eat it raw when its half ripe , or just cook it alone, make a papaya adobo or just plain papaya soup given taste by fish sauce or bagoong.

So now let's get to the eating part. hehe . The Gabi is now cooked after a short wait. I present you Cecilia's Spicy Gabi.
This is a Spicy Guisado Gabi, just looking at it's orange soup you can already till it's color is from the chili, now that the reason for the freezing cold Cola to help me recover when my tongue is burning.
And of course we ate with bare hands, for us the food becomes more delicious when eating bare handed. I love how spices aunty cooked it, I think I ate more than 4 cups of rice, I don't even remember. Also my mother (blue blouse)enjoyed eating while chatting with her sister.
We Igorots realy love spicy foods , a meal is not complete without a sawsawan with chili, whether its soy sauce or bagoong with calamansi. Oh heres my place , I poured some spicy soup from the gabi to give more flavor to the rice and beside it is the freezing cold Cola.
We really enjoyed the meal, so what we did after we ate with a full stomach is take a nap. hehe.
I know aunty will call us again one of this days to have some of her Spicy Gabi and we will definitely be there.
