When someone says sport, you think of those sports that are known worldwide and usually are participating at the Olympics and World Championships. If you ask me, those are indeed real sports but there are others too, called sports but not accepted to the Olympics and World Championships and I hope they never will be accepted. Why? Because they are just stupid.
One of them is crab racing, which you can see in Caribbean and Pacific island countries. All you have to do is get a crab, label it with a race number and line it up to the start line. People are betting on the crab they think it will win.
I would say sport is done by humans but that's not entirely true as there are horse races (pretty famous and well liked) and also dog races. It's just that those are very different from crab racing as those animals are trained regularly, not just sent in their merry way hoping they will be the fastest. A good race horse costs millions literally, so it's not a joke. And wait, this is not all. There's a National Crab Racing Association that was established in 1979. Well, what can I say? Each with their own, right?
The other I wanted to point out it's Cheese Rolling. This is a very old sport in England, held annually at Cooper’s Hill near Gloucester. I understand the concept, you have to roll a cheese roll down the hill and the fastest wins, I really do. it is something that Romans were doing for entertainment. I'm assuming it's not easy to guide that piece of cheese to get through the finish line, especially on an uneven ground like a hill. What I don't understand is why do you have to play with food? Food must be respected and not played with. that's what I've learned from my parents and that's a rule I always respect. Not to mention how dangerous it can be as a roll of cheese is heavy and if you get hit by one, you are in serious trouble.
The dumbest that I've seen lately is the Thumb Wrestling Championships. The news was shared for days on Twitter, you could not escape without seeing it three or four times a day.
The Thumb Wrestling World Championship takes place in Norfolk each year. This year was the 11th tournament.
The sport of thumb wrestling was thought to have originated in the UK, and since 2009, the Championships have been a way to put people's thumbs to the test!
Players compete using only their thumbs in a specially-built mini wooden wrestling ring.
In order to win competitors must pin their opponents thumb down and hold it there until they've said "1, 2, 3, 4, I won the Thumb War".
Two members of the same family took home the titles with Janet Coleman winning the women's competition and her son-in-law Paul Browse taking home the men's title. source
This is not for me, that's for sure and can't call it a sport either. This is a game that people can play but should not be called a sport.
