Splinterlands is proving to be a really fun game with lots of things to learn and do both in the game, in the economics of the game (renting, buying, selling) and in the community with all the interesting posts and the various competitions etc run. One of which is the Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenge!

First things first, feel free to just go to their website directly but if Splinterlands interests you I'd be very happy if you joined up with my referral link:

Battle Challenge of the week -

Feature Card - Beatrix Ironhand

Most of the battle challenges to date I haven't been able to have a go at as I didn't have the right cards. This week I'm very fortunate that @fwxiii from the "The Crypto-Gaming Guild" has helped me out with a few cards, one of which is Beatrix Ironhand.

While being a fairly strong attacker in her own right one particularly useful aspect of hers is her "Close Range" ability. This means that she can attack from the first position which means you can leave her say in slot 2 and if your tank dies she can still attack.

The Battle

This battle had a mana cap of 26 and the stipulation No Melee Characters allowed.

No Melee means its hard to get a tank up front so its a good match for Beatrix as she can be a 2nd tank and do some damage when whatever you use up front is gone.

Summoner was Lyana for the +1 health - no point in using Mylor if there's no melee allowed.

I put up the Peaceful Giant up front, Beatrix second, Khmer priestess then my favourite Earth card (rented) Kron the undying. I figured this would be a good lineup with the giant tanking it up giving the rest time to do some damage. Kron being quite OP covered the back with both his heal ability and of course strong magic damage. The Khmer Priestess was chosen as she did magic damage (bypassing shields) and fitted the mana cap.

The opponent went with a strong Water magic lineup with a makeshift no attack tank at the front:

Alric for +1 magic

Kelp initiate for a tank, Captains Ghost and Sea Genie for strong magic attack (3 each with Alric), Axemaster for 2 ranged DOUBLE STRIKE attack and the albatross to cover the back and make up the cap. In short he could do 10 damage a round.

The battle was tough - Peaceful giant lasted a bit but couldn't hold against the the 10 damage in the lineup so was gone by the second turn. However I took out their Kelp initiate just as quickly.

Beatrix was now in front and could still attack allowing me to keep on hitting and taking out the Captains Ghost - unfortunately Beatrix didn't survive either. At this point it was looking nasty with just my Khmer Priestess who'd die very quickly and Kron left.

In turn 3 Khmer Priestess was a walkover leaving it all up to Kron - his strong magic attack and initial health allowed him to take out the Sea Genie with one shot and I knew it was game over - His Axemaster can't hit from the front line so the end was a formality.

So another battle won courtesy of Kron but also featuring a solid Beatrix Performance.

And that about sums it up - hope you enjoyed my first ever Weekly Battle Challenge post! And if you're interested in Splinterlands or any of the other programmes I've looked at please join up if you haven't already for fun, excitement and maybe a little Crypto in your pocket!
