The rarest asset in Splinterlands - How much is it worth? 🤑

Hey everyone,

I love playing Splinterlands because it is not only a lot of fun but you actually own your assets which gives them a real value. There are some really high priced cards out there, especially the gold foil cards with a low amount of cards in circulation cost a fortune.

So how cool would it be to own a legendary gold foil card that is unique (with only 1 card out there). I don't have such a card in my possession but there is one out there and that's the Gold Foil Mighty Dricken - only one of those exists. And since the supply is so small there's no real market price to consider when you want to calculate how much this card is worth. So in this post I want to estimate the value of the Gold Foil Mighty Dricken.

The Gold Foil Mighty Dricken

Let's take a quick look at the card first. It has 2 melee attack combined with 2 speed and 2 health. What's super cool is that it has 4 abilities:
Flying - so it has a higher chance to evade melee or ranged attacks.
Trample - If an enemey is killed by an attack this monsters attacks again.
Enrage - When damaged, attack and speed will be increased.
Scavenger - Gains 1 health every time a monster dies.

And all that for just 1 mana. That's crazy 😄 Sure, 2 health is not that much but in a game with a lot of monsters it could gain a lot of extra health if enough other monsters die first. In addition to that it will evade a lot of damage with it's flying ability. And even if it's damaged it will only get stronger because of the Trample and Enrage ability. I also love the design of the card 😍 I would give a lot to own this one...

How much is it worth?

Okay, that's the tricky part. First of all we should be aware that this card consists of 3 cards which were combined to this max lvl card. If we take a look at the burn value provided by Splintercards we can see that one gold foil card has a burn value of 150,000 DEC, so 3 should have a value of 450,000 DEC.

So the first approach to calculate the value is to take a look at the cheapest card regarding CP / $ and try to figure out a min. value with that factor. The card with the best collection power per Dollar rate right now is the Gargoya Lion. It has 5 CP and costs $0.033 - So for $1 you would get 1/0,033 * 5 = 151 collection power. But we shouldn't be considering such a card because it worth way less than the Mighty Dricken.

Let's take a look at legendary gold foil cards instead. The Djinn Biljka is the legendary gold foil card with the best CP/$ ratio. The card costs $121 and has a CP of 12.500. That's 12.500 / 121 = 103 CP per Dollar. So a Gold Foil Mighty Dricken with a burn value of 450,000 DEC should have a min value of 450,000/12,500 * 121 = $3,719!

If it would have a price of < $3,719 it would be the legendary gold card with the highest CP/$ ration which seems unreasonable. So I think it is plausible that it would cost at least $3,719 but how much exactly? To get a better idea of that I will take a look at the most expensive gold foild cards on the market:

Okay, I won't use the Sacred Unicorn or the Frost Giant for my calculations because they have INSANE prices. Sure, the Gold Foil Mighty Dricken could be worth as much as them but I guess if I would consider these prices I would get a pretty huge bias in my price analysis because those cards are offered for that money but I doubt they would be sold for those prices. So let's focus on the Shin-Lo and the Elemental Phoenix instead.

The Shin-Lo has a burn value of 150,000 DEC and the Elemental Phoenix can be burned for 150,000 DEC as well. Both are just offered once, so there's only 1 potential seller. We can consider those sellers monopolists, so it is questionable once again if those card will be sold for that kind of money. But let's use those cards for a max price. The max lvl Gold Foil Mighty Dricken has 3 times as much CP as these cards, so I would assume the max value is 3 * $50,000 = $150,000.

That's a pretty huge interval. But I think the chance are really high the card is worth between $3,719 and $150,000. In the last part of my analysis I just want to focus on gold foil cards from the promo edition (because that's the edition of the Gold Foil Mighty Dricken).

All those cards have 150,000 CP but there prices fluctuate a lot. If we just take a look at these cards it's pretty difficult to rank them by value. Sure, we could do a ranking by seller prices but all of them are just offered once or twice. So here's our monopoly problem again: If there's only 1 seller he could demand $10,000,000 for the card but that wouldn't meen it's actually worth this much. If we compare the cards with the Gold Foil Mighty Dricken we see that Shin-Lo is a pretty similar card: 1 mana, 1 magic attack instead of 2 melee attack and 2 health. But the card has just 1 ability whereas the Mighty Dricken has 4! Other 1 mana cards from different editions cost between $1,500 and $8,000 but they seem to be less strong as well. That's why I think the Gold Foil Mighty Dricken should be worth more than $8,000 but less than the monopoly price of $50,000. In my opinion $12,000 per card seems like a fair price and if you consider that the max lvl card consists of 3 cards I would price the Gold Foil Mighty Dricken at $36,000.

Please note that this is just my estimation. In the end the price will be determined by how much the card is worth for buyers and how much they are willing to pay for it. So to get a better price understanding we had to do a survey with quite wealthy Splinterlands investors, which I won't do at this point.

One last thing to consider: The card is unique, there's only 1 out there! No other card in the game has a circulation of just 1. Here's some facts about the card provided by its owner @goldmatters (Source):

  • The Gold Foil Mighty Dricken won't be printed in the future. So there will be only 1 - EVER!
  • Someone who would want to own all gold cards would need to buy this card
  • The card has been rented out for over $100 / day at the end of the season
  • Gold Foil Mighty Dricken has enough collection power to get you to Champion I

If you take those points into consideration the price should actually be higher. In my opinion a 100% surcharge is realistic which would mean a price of $72,000 for the lvl 4 Gold Foil Mighty Dricken.

Conclusion

There are a lot of uncertainties regarding this card. How much would people be willing to pay? Will there ever be another gold foil card with a circulation of 1?

It was difficult for me to estimate the price under these conditions. But I am really certain that the card is worth between $3,719 and $150,000 - my more exact guess would be $72,000.

If the card is really offered for that amount is another question. And would someone buy it for that price? @rentmoney reported a couple months ago that a card was sold for $50,000 (Source) and that was gold foil Prince Julian. That card has 7 copies. The Gold Foil Mighty Dricken only has 1! So that a price of $72,000 might be paid in the future and would make the Gold Foil Mighty Dricken the highest known Splinterlands card sale ever doesn't seem that unrealistic 😍 Who knows...

Thanks for reading. This was my entry for @goldmatters contest to estimate the price of the Gold Foil Mighty Dricken. If you want to enter as well, check out his post.

Cheers ✌
