I just saw Beetlejuice for the first time in my life and I have a little problem trying to synthesize my opinions, one of Tim Burton's most prominent works includes several of what we would consider today "A-List Celebrities" such as Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin or Winona Ryder and puts them in an extremely creative universe.
The result is one of the most "Burton" films I have ever seen, with a very well balanced mix between the terrifying and the grotesque, without leaving behind the fun, Beetlejuice presents many very interesting concepts that never feel out of place. .. After a couple of minutes your atmosphere absorbs you and you stop questioning many things.
Although it is an instant classic of eighties comic horror and here no one seeks to discredit that status, there are moments when the plot loses its course a bit, seeing itself more focused on the technical deployment than on telling an effective story.
The special effects are wonderful, especially if we take into account the release date of the film ... but sometimes I would like a story a little more focused.
Of course, these are small complaints against the general feeling that the film provides, where a good soundtrack, good performances and good direction complement each other providing an unforgettable adventure.
The world of Beetlejuice always feels dense, with chaotic rules that make sense within itself. It works very well as a parody on classic horror tales and introduces us to one of the most iconic creatures of the late eighties.
Although Tim Burton has had moments where his creativity seems lacking, and it becomes a triumph of style over substance, it is these works (As also happens in A Nightmare Before Christmas or Edward Scissorhands) where he stands out, for taking the time to build characters with soul, who earn our empathy or our contempt in a matter of minutes.
Although there are moments when Beetlejuice fails, the love for the gothic behind it is undeniable, and the desire to of Burton make quality films.
Acabo de ver Beetlejuice por primera vez en mi vida y tengo un pequeño problema tratando de sintetizar mis opiniones, una de las obras más prominentes de Tim Burton recoge varios de los que hoy en día consideraríamos "A-List Celebrities" como Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin o Winona Ryder y las pone en un universo extremadamente creativo.
El resultado es uno de los filmes más "Burton" que he visto en mi vida, con una mezcla muy bien balanceada entre lo terrorífico y lo grotesco, sin dejar atrás la diversión, Beetlejuice presenta muchos conceptos interesantísimos que nunca se sienten fuera de lugar... Luego de un par de minutos su atmosfera te absorbe y dejas de cuestionar muchas cosas.
Si bien es un clásico instantaneo del terror cómico ochentero y aquí nadie busca desprestigiar ese estatus, hay momentos en donde la trama pierde un poco el curso, viéndose más enfocada en el despliegue técnico que en contar una historia efectiva.
Los efectos especiales son maravillosos, más si tomamos en cuenta la fecha de estreno de la cinta... pero a veces quisiera una historia un poco más enfocada.
Por supuesto, estas son quejas pequeñas frente a la sensación general que brinda la película, en donde una buena banda sonora, buenas actuaciones y una buena dirección se complementan brindando una aventura inolvidable.
El mundo de Beetlejuice siempre se siente denso, con reglas caóticas que tienen sentido dentro de si misma. Funciona muy bien como una parodia sobre cuentos de terror clásico y nos presenta una de las criaturas más icónicas de finales de los ochenta.
Aunque Tim Burton ha tenido momentos en donde su creatividad parece carente, y se convierte en un triunfo del estilo sobre la sustancia, son estas obras (Como también pasa en A Nightmare Before Christmas o Edward Scissorhands9 en donde destaca, por tomarse el tiempo de construir personajes con alma, que se ganan nuestra empatía o nuestro desprecio en cuestión de minutos.
Aunque hay momentos en donde Beetlejuice falla, es innegable el amor por lo gótico que hay detrás, y las ganas de hacer cine de calidad.
