Me encantan las obras de teatro, es una de mis atracciones favoritas, es por esto que hoy me animé a compartirles una obra de teatro que vi hace muchos años y me gustó mucho porque reí desde principio a fin con las ocurrencias de los personajes. Probablemente no sea la del mejor guión o puesta en escena de las que haya visto, pero lo cierto es que su contenido me pareció muy original y divertido, no paraba de reír durante la obra.
La obra de teatro se llama “Un salto atrás”, es una obra humorística del dramaturgo venezolano Leoncio Martínez. Con mucha perspicacia, se plantea una situación peculiar de una familia de alcurnia venezolana, que se lleva una gran sorpresa cuando nace un bebé de la familia de color negro, siendo su padre alemán y su madre Julieta, blanca como la leche.
Para el momento del nacimiento del bebé, el papá de la criatura se encontraba de viaje, por lo que los familiares de Julieta aterrados por la reacción que tendría cuando viera el color del bebé empezaron a inventar un sinfín de salidas para evitar ese momento de encuentro, porque pensaban que ella le había sido infiel a su marido y con tan desleal comportamiento había comprometido el honor de toda la casta, no habría otra explicación posible, aunque entre las muchas locuras que pensaron, se pasearon por creer que habían sido víctimas de una gran “brujería” de algún vecino envidioso.

En el desarrollo de la obra se van presentando una serie de situaciones muy cómicas entre los personajes (abuelos, tíos y familiares cercanos del bebé), todo el drama se entreteje en ausencia de sus padres. En los diálogos se destaca de forma jocosa el tema del racismo que había para aquella época, la diferencia de clases sociales y el estatus, y también la preocupación por “el qué dirán” y ser objeto de chismes y burlas por parte de la sociedad.
Cuando el padre regresa (disculpen por el spoiler), se encuentra en medio de aquella situación, y al entrar a la habitación donde se encontraba el bebé con su madre, abrazó y besó a su hijo con mucho entusiasmo, sin inmutarse por su color de piel. Para él no era ninguna sorpresa ese resultado, porque en su familia tenía muchos ascendentes de color, de aquí el nombre de la obra “Un salto atrás”, que evoca esa posibilidad de que las nuevas generaciones puedan tomar alguna semejanza con sus antecesores.
Además de ser muy divertida, siento que tiene un mensaje importante sobre superar el racismo, la discriminación y las diferencias por temas de estatus social.

I love plays, it's one of my favorite attractions, that's why today I decided to share with you a play I saw many years ago and I liked it a lot because I laughed from beginning to end with the characters. It's probably not the one with the best script or staging of the ones I have seen, but the truth is that I found its content very original and funny, I could not stop laughing during the play.
The play is called "Un salto atrás", a humorous play by Venezuelan playwright Leoncio Martinez. With great perspicacity, it presents a peculiar situation of a Venezuelan noble family, which gets a big surprise when a black baby is born in the family, being his father German and his mother Julieta, white as milk.
At the time of the baby's birth, his father was traveling, so Julieta's relatives, terrified by the reaction he would have when he saw the baby's color, began to invent endless ways out to avoid that moment of meeting, because they thought she had been unfaithful to her husband and with such disloyal behavior had compromised the honor of the entire caste, there would be no other possible explanation, although among the many crazy things they thought, they believed they had been victims of a great "witchcraft" of some envious neighbor.

In the development of the play a series of very comical situations between the characters (grandparents, uncles, aunts and close relatives of the baby) are presented, the whole drama is interwoven in the absence of his parents. The dialogues jokingly highlight the issue of racism at the time, the difference in social classes and status, and also the concern about "what people will say" and being the object of gossip and ridicule by society.
When the father returns (sorry for the spoiler), he finds himself in the middle of that situation, and upon entering the room where the baby was with his mother, he embraced and kissed his son with great enthusiasm, undeterred by his skin color. For him that result was no surprise, because in his family he had many colored ancestors, hence the name of the play "A leap backwards", which evokes the possibility that the new generations can take some resemblance to their ancestors.
Besides being very funny, I feel it has an important message about overcoming racism, discrimination and differences due to social status issues.
