Fue el gran arquitecto francés, Viollet le Duc –a quien debemos la primera restauración de la catedral de Notre-Dame, que precisamente ayer, volvió a recordarse en los noticiarios mundiales, al cumplirse dos años de su pavoroso incendio- quien sugirió que la forma hexagonal, octogonal y circular, eran modelos de arquitectura templaria.

En España, han sobrevivido algunas iglesias románicas que detentan dichas formas, aunque su atribución a los caballeros de la Orden del Temple genera muchas dudas y discusiones entre los historiadores, muchos de los cuales convienen en atribuírselas a una orden, en cierto modo, no menos enigmática, como es la del Santo Sepulcro.
