Muertes por covid - Deaths by covid

Esa noche cenamos tarde.

We Latin Americans inherit from the Spanish and Portuguese the Christian faith, devotion and practice, as in the whole world these customs have been disrupted over the years and at this time all over the world the practitioners are less in quantity and in devotion and that loss has been felt more in Europe, precisely the cradle of Catholicism.

Around here there are still many people who maintain the Christian practice, not for nothing Latin America is by far the most important Catholic community on the planet. In my country, Christianity has declined, mainly in large urban centers, but it remains intact in the interior with a certain preponderance in the north.

The election of the first Latin American Pope is a sign of regional importance and precisely in a very small square that is just 50 meters from the home where Francis spent his youth before embarking on the pastoral career that placed him on the highest step of the ecclesiastical hierarchy, a mass was held a few days ago for those killed by the Covid pandemic that brought us to the unthinkable, sad and enormous figure of 100,000 deaths.

The mass was not publicized or at least I did not find out until I stopped by when I was going to do the shopping for dinner. I live 100 meters from the place and I am used to seeing events related to the Catholic Faith take place there, the neighborhood where the current Pope lived is emblematic and a large stamp located on the floor of the small square commemorates March 13, 2013 , the day he is elected by the conclave of bishops to replace Pope Benedict XVI, who resigns in an unprecedented event in the Catholic Church until then.

Returning to the mass in honor of those killed by Covid, it was exciting and different. There was music and a live group sang various modern themes and some traditional Church songs. It was not a sad celebration, on the contrary, the parish priest of the nearby Church understood and made it known to the public, that the best way to honor the deceased was by celebrating life in Faith and Hope that this evil will pass early.

We had a late dinner that night.
