Me pasa algo muy curioso siempre que visito alguna iglesia (o una catedral en este caso), y es que siempre comienzo a hacerme preguntas sobre la idea de dios, sobre la vida, sobre la muerte, sobre el amor y sobre nuestra historia en general como humanos.

En esta oportunidad, en la catedral de Valencia, divague (durante el breve recorrido) entre ideas sobre la construcción y la historia de este espacio; aunque no es en sí de lo que vengo a hablar hoy.

Something very curious happens to me whenever I visit a church (or a cathedral in this case), and it is that I always start asking myself questions about the idea of God, about life, about death, about love and about our history in general as humans. In this opportunity, in the cathedral of Valencia, I wandered (during the brief tour) between ideas about the construction and history of this space; although it is not in itself what I come to talk about today.

Creo y siento que las iglesias están construidas con toda la intensión de espectáculo posible, y no me malentiendan, esto no lo digo negativamente, todo lo contrario. Al entrar en estos espacios lo primero que sucede es que te cargas de la vibra que la estructura resguarda dentro de sus paredes.

I believe and feel that churches are built with every possible intention of spectacle, and do not misunderstand me, I do not say this negatively, on the contrary. When you enter these spaces the first thing that happens is that you are charged with the vibe that the structure shelters within its walls.

La inmensidad, el eco, las entradas de luz, todo perfectamente creado para hacer del lugar la digna casa del dios dominante entre todos los dioses (o al menos que más impacto sigue teniendo en el mundo moderno, diría yo).

The immensity, the echo, the entrances of light, everything perfectly created to make the place the worthy home of the dominant god among all gods (or at least the one that still has the most impact in the modern world, I would say).

Solo el imaginar el tiempo que todo esto tarda en construirse, la cantidad de acontecimientos importantes que sucedieron dentro y al rededor de esta estructura. Es impresionante, con sus ambivalencias morales, evidentemente.

Just imagining the time all this takes to build, the amount of important events that happened in and around this structure. It is impressive, with its moral ambivalences, obviously.

La historia de las religiones es en general una historia muy compleja, guarda detrás la incansable búsqueda del humano por darle sentido a su propia existencia a través de historias sobre la creación y sobre nuestras responsabilidades con nuestros hermanos y hermanas.

The history of religions is in general a very complex story, it holds behind it the tireless search of humans to make sense of their own existence through stories about creation and about our responsibilities to our brothers and sisters.

Historias de salvadores torturados por oponerse al sistema, condenados por su propio pueblo cuando estos solo buscaban "abrir los ojos" de su gente.

Stories of saviors tortured for opposing the system, condemned by their own people when they only sought to "open the eyes" of their people.

Toda una historia manipulada entre libros y versiones para poder convertirla en una herramienta de dominación disfrazada de lo que "la humanidad" necesitaba para encontrar cierta paz en mitad de este sinsentido.

A whole history manipulated between books and versions in order to turn it into a tool of domination disguised as what "humanity" needed to find some peace in the midst of this nonsense.

Humanos santificados, otros sacrificados, algunos perseguidos por oponerse a las leyes religiosas.

Humans sanctified, others sacrificed, some persecuted for opposing religious laws.

Igual... Esto ya sucedió y poco podemos hacer. Al final, sin importar en qué creamos o de donde venga nuestra idea del sentido de la vida o de cuáles son nuestros dioses favoritos, no podemos olvidar que: "Polvo somos y en polvo nos convertiremos".

Anyway... This has already happened and there is little we can do about it. In the end, no matter what we believe in or where our idea of the meaning of life comes from or what our favorite gods are, we cannot forget that: "Dust we are and to dust we shall return". Don't argue so much about which idea of the world is the most accurate, better use the time here in the best possible way. Help someone, embrace, love, forgive, learn, resist, educate and feel. I hope my idea of religion doesn't go down badly, I know that for many it is a delicate subject, but I think that opening healthy spaces to talk about it is something very nourishing.
