Before making the crib, it is advisable to draw up a graphic sketch on a sheet, determine the size of the space to be occupied and on how many levels to realize it: it is important to get an idea of what you would like to create the various scenes. Then write down where to place the cave, village, mountains, rivers, lakes or waterfalls, and shepherds. Remember that at the time of the crib nature occupied more space than artificial constructions and the characters lived in humble environments in stone or brick.

Establish the support base for the nativity scene

In the initial phase, place the base in which you want to make the nativity scene: usually it consists of a long series of boxes of shoes placed randomly, not aligned. Hide the threads of light with moss

Next, place the lights trying to hide the threads with moss: each scene must have its own lights. In the most beautiful cribs there are many small details, both in the cave, in the stables and in the village's shops. It is also very nice the effect you get when you are forced to watch some scenes through a window, arc or door. Do not forget that the crib must have its own perspective, therefore, it will be necessary to position the shepherds according to their size, then the largest ones in the front, vice versa, the smallest ones in the inside and back, giving the effect of distance. Well, now you can take care of the details of the nativity scene, the landscape, the stables; even the use of simple materials such as cork for exposed structures or cotton wool for snow can create the right atmosphere. The use of fresh moss will certainly give a completely different effect than dry moss.
