Quick recap of the challenge

For Challenge 5, participants were required to select a site for a restaurant based on a map provided in the question. The map offered 4 different sites. Each site had advantages and disadvantages. The participants were also required to state why they rejected the other sites. On top of deciding which site to select for their restaurant, participants were also required to state the type and quality of the food they would serve as well as the general nature of their restaurant. The participants were allowed to be as creative as they like with their responses.

What have our participants proposed?

Entrant 1 @lavanyalakshman

Let’s start with @lavanyalakshman. @lavanyalakshman has chosen Site D because of its good location and close proximity to other amenities such as the shopping mall, stadium, and public transport. @lavanyalakshman has chosen to run a family restaurant that sells high quality food at a moderate price. @lavanyalakshman also provides very brief explanations as to why the other sites were not selected.

Entrant 2 @luisveco88

Our next entrant is @luisveco88. @luisveco88 has chosen Site B because of the convenient parking and moderate rent. Site B also has the benefit of being located near to the shopping mall. @luisveco88 provided reasons for rejecting the other locations and also highlighted several examples of how these other sites could be problematic.

@luisveco88 has chosen to run a pizzeria just like Jane’s Pizzeria. @luisveco88 provided reasons why a pizzeria would be a good business to operate at Site B.

Entrant 3 @toyinbaruba

Our next participant is @toyinbaruba. @toyinbaruba has chosen Site D for the restaurant based mostly on close proximity to other town amenities as well as high traffic volume. @toyinbaruba has focused on the type of food that would be served at the restaurant. @toyinbaruba has proposed selling highly quality African food in the restaurant. This is certainly very different than what the competition is selling in Merry Town. @toyinbaruba even provided an example of the dishes and provided a photograph to add more colour to the post.

Entrant 4 @ojmg

Our fourth entrant is @ojmg. @ojmg has chosen Site D by considering both the advantages and disadvantages of the location. @ojmg presents this information very clearly in two lists. @ojmg also acknowledges the positive effect of other shops and restaurants in that area. @ojmg very briefly provides an overarching reason for not selecting the other sites.

@ojmg is thinking of running a junk food restaurant. The restaurant will serve hamburgers, sandwiches, fries, soft drinks, desserts and some typical Latin American dishes. @ojmg believes this type of restaurant will be popular with the young population of Merry Town.

Entrant 5 @patymm

Our fifth entrant is @patymm. @patymm has chosen Site D (so far a very popular site to choose) based on the good quality of the location and the high volumes of traffic in that area. @patymm does not consider the distance to free parking a problem and sees the nearby bus terminal as a key advantage of this site. @patymm provides a reasonably in-depth discussion regarding why the other sites were not selected.

@patymm proposes selling good quality fast food that caters for the many different tastes of the inhabitants of Merry Town. The restaurant will also have a recreational area for the children to enjoy. @patymm, I hope you have considered the amount of space available at the site.

Entrant 6 @knowledge-seeker

Our fifth entrant is @knowledge-seeker. @knowledge-seeker has chosen Site C. @knowledge-seeker goes into great detail describing the strengths and weaknesses of all 4 sites. Site C won @knowledge-seeker over because of several reasons. The size of the location which allows for greater growth. The rapidly growing neighbourhood around Site C. The convenience of Site C to the residential area. @knowledge-seeker also makes a strong point regarding lack of competition from other restaurants in that area.

@knowledge-seeker proposes opening a family restaurant serving medium quality food at a medium price. The restaurant will have a buffet that caters to a very wide variety of tastes.

Entrant 7 @marioberlese

Our seventh entrant is @marioberlese. @marioberlese has chosen Site D. @marioberlese provides multiple reasons why Site D would be a great place to start a restaurant. These reasons include the high volumes of traffic, the close proximity to the stadium, as well as the bus station. @marioberlese also provided explanations to why the other locations were rejected. The explanations were provided on a site-by-site basis which was easy to follow.

@marioberlese has decided to open a fast food restaurant. @marioberlese argues that there are currently no fast food restaurants in the area and therefore would be addressing a gap. @marioberlese also points out that fast food could be great for that location as people may not have a lot of time to spend in restaurants and could be rushing to get to places. The food would be of a high quality and the restaurant will offer both indoor and outdoor seating.

Entrant 8 @grafaelt

Our final entrant for the challenge is @grafaelt. @grafaelt has chosen Site B. @grafaelt has listed both the advantages and disadvantages of Site B. @grafaelt likes that Site B is close to the mall and the commercial part of the town as well as being near the growing residential area. The nearby parking and no crime are also plus points that were highlighted. @grafaelt very briefly states that the other sites do not meet the criteria for the restaurant.

@grafaelt proposes opening a family restaurant that offers a different menu every week. The restaurant will focus on addressing the needs of people working in the area and will facilitate meetings and special lunches. The food sold will be of good quality and should be affordable for most potential patrons. The restaurant will become more family friendly over the weekend.

How to vote

The winner will be decided by votes placed in the comments section; the post that receives the most votes wins. The winner will receive 5 SBD. I expect voting to be based on the quality of the post and ability to address the criteria of the challenge post. I do not want voting to be based on the author or relationship or friendship with the author. Each vote will also be rewarded with a very small upvote. The upvote is an incentive to vote as well as an incentive to view each post. I would also appreciate a brief explanation as to why a vote has been cast.

To vote, enter the entrant’s number in the comment section followed by a brief explanation of why the vote was cast. The entrant’s numbers are as followers.
