Civita di Bagnoregio

Civita di Bagnoregio is an amazing village we went to located between Florence and Rome.

It was built more than 2,500 years ago by the Etruscans (the modern name given to a civilization of ancient Italy in the area corresponding roughly to Tuscany) 1.

It is between the Rio Chiaro and Rio Torbido and surrounded by the Valley of Calanchi. 2

We went on a beautiful spring day with beautiful blue skies.

When we pulled up to the site and looked out toward the city we saw a big mass of white moving together on the bridge. We joined the other tourists in speculating what it could be?
I thought.... nuns? maybe nurses? someone that wore a lot of white.

As they got closer we saw that it was a group of about 50 school age children from China!

People come from all over the world to visit this city that has been preserved by its isolation. The only way to access the city is to cross a 984 foot (300 meter) bridge.

The leader asked us to move so they could get this group picture with the city behind them.

Cute sibling selfie with Civita di Bagnoregio!

It was a nice stop on our drive from Florence to Rome. Someday, I would like to walk across the bridge and see the town and the views as one crosses the bridge.

There is a Romanesque church, Renaissance buildings, restaurants, shops and even a bed and breakfast. 2
