Today I learned that the vice president of the United States was saved from a Russian assassination attempt thanks to Shaming.
When he visited Russia in 1959, the Russians planted a lethal amount of radioactive materials in Vice President Nixon's bedroom. His bodyguards discovered the radiation, but could not locate its source.
Instead of creating an unpleasant diplomatic incident, the bodyguards turned to the Shaming; they entered the room, certain that the Russians were listening to him, and began to speak out loud about the attempted assassination. For example, one of them said, "I do not believe they think such a poor trick will work for them!"
Three hours later, the radiation had died out of Nixon's room.
