This cute lady is called the "Flatback Turtle" (Natator depressus), my friends and I have met her on a Western Australian beach, up north Port Headland town on a new moon late day of November 2017 . We have actually met a lot of her friends on that same day . Without being aware of it we ended up celebrating my friend's birthday camping next to one of their favorite nesting spot at the perfect time. One of these lucky days.
She is mostly found in the Australian Northern waters, around Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. She only breeds northern Australia with a peak around late November, beginning of December, and usually lays around 50 eggs.
She starts the nesting process by creating a “body pit” by digging with her flippers and rotating her body.
She now digs an eggs cavity by using her rear flippers as shovels
Watching these strong wise beautiful loners creating Life was an immense joy and a very peaceful quiet moment. We felt really privileged to share that with them. We sat next to them and did appreciate what life was offering us to live.
