Useless information #29 - Revisiting the Buckyball

For this Useless information, I decided to revisit our friend Buckyball
After reading the post about the Buckyball (Useless information #14) we already know it's made of 60 carbon atoms and is the most spherical molecule of all.

TIL buckyball has more interesting tricks!

  • If you apply a pressure of 200 atmospheres to a Buckyball you get yourself... a diamond.
    Easier said than done!

  • Buckyball is extremely elastic. It can become harder than diamond when compressed to 70% of its volume but if the pressure stops our cute buckyball returns to its fragile and soft shape.
