How many molecules are there in…?
- A 1 g diamond?
- A 10 g diamond?
- A 100 g diamond?
- A 500 g diamond?
- A 633 g diamond? (I thinks it’s the largest one found so far (source).
The unique answer
to all the above questions is:
ONE
No matter the size of the diamond it is formed by a single molecule.
In diamonds, the electronic clouds of the atoms don’t stick around each atom. Instead, the clouds spread around the all the atoms. This is what makes the diamonds very hard.
