Untapping the Potential of Geothermal Energy with Graphene

Underneath the Earth’s surface is a huge potential source of renewable energy, and Graphene may finally allow us to effectively harness it.

Graphene, a carbon-based material at the single-molecule level, exhibits novel properties: it’s the world’s first two-dimensional object, it’s virtually transparent and weightless yet it’s stronger than steel, and it’s one of the best conductors in the world.

Compared to copper, graphene has shown to be 100 times more effective as a conductor, with zero heat loss when energy is transferred through.

Most conductive materials, including copper, melt down the further below the Earth’s surface they travel. Graphene, on the other hand, is resilient in Geothermal temperatures.

Manoj Bhargava, the former CEO of Five Hour Energy, has taken the initiative with his team of engineers to harness Geothermal energy with graphene cables. It’s a simple yet elegant solution, but more importantly, it works.
