Sails are back on board

Up before the marina staff arrived. Started in on the transfer of ownership with Transport Canada. As mentioned in a previous posting the government web sites tend to be more focused on security than user friendliness and it was not long in the process when things started to bog down for me.

Remembering that a telephone number had been written down from outside of the barred Transport Canada Office in Kingston a couple of days ago, it was given a call.

A very charming sounding lady called Alanda answered. After letting me rave my tale for some moments she responded by explaining that her number was not usually used for seeking help with applications. She said that local offices had been closed a while ago and that there was now only one main headquarters in Ontario. She said that if contact for help could not be found after digging further on the web site then to let her know with a call back and she would see what she could find.

It being now mid-morning and having been somewhat exhausted with my interaction on the government site, it seemed a good time to take a break and wait for Roger's, the sailboat specialist, to arrive.

All the paperwork for the ownership transfer is now collected in one pile at least. Once Roger had been by then that pile could be signed over WhatsApp under my lawyer's gaze then scanned and sent off to his office to facilitate a closing on my property in Halifax.

Expecting a call from my lawyer at noon my time, did a preemptive call to Roger. He said he was just leaving a job and would be by in 10 minutes or so.

Got in a call with my lawyer during the wait and the plan was go take all the printed and signed papers and one paper that still needed printing, signing under my lawyer's all seeing eye and scanned to be sent back to him as an email attachment.

Just finished that scheming when Roger arrived. He's a nice guy by all accounts. He certainly appeared to know his trade. My title for him would be a mechanic as opposed to Sailboat Specialist but it is sailboats with which he focuses his efforts.

He had the post stripped and cables removed in record time all the while commenting about different aspects of the engine room which may want some attention. Makina appears to be in good hands.

By early afternoon Roger was off hunting down cables. Maybe? He's coming back right? 😁

A call from Ali at the Sail Loft had me taxing over to pick up the sails and bring them back to the boat. The Sail Loft was surprisingly close to the marina. It had seemed a long way off when going there with Pierre. In fact it had been my assumption that it was somewhere more towards downtown Kingston.

At any rate after a yarn with the Sail Maker returned to the boat with both the main and jib. The Sail Maker seems convinced that the Main was a much larger sail that had been cut to fit Makina. Must be an interesting backstory.

With the sail safely back on board it was off to Staples to do my paperwork. It would almost have been worth the extra costs to go back to the downtown location which had done my print outs. However the other one was much closer and could justify a taxi ride.

The staff was much more hands off at the location chosen. It was nothing like the commercials of staff filling your binders with colorful splashes of print outs. It was a lot of searching aimlessly through touch screen menus while muttering what might have been mistaken as cussin'.

It was an incredible energy drain!!!

Yet we crossed that hill eventually without raising my voice, though it would have felt good... for a moment perhaps?

May that be the last of the needed paperwork. It is now evening and my lawyer asked me to call at this time. No doubt to have a look at the results of my stress packed afternoon.

May the wind be at your back!
