Happy Canada Day and my first maintenance project on Makina.

Definitely putting the Actifit hashtag on this post after this morning's work out. No stationary bike or BowFlex required. Get on a boat. Either as crew or buy one. A wonderful fitness program awaits. Now from my observations the boating community likes their cups and beers. My edge on them could be due to being a non-alcoholic partaker. No its not because of AA, though at times that might not have been a bad idea, and not because of damage self inflicted to my kidneys. It was on doctor's orders after my throat cancer surgery coming up on 11 years ago.

After a later wake up, at least the sun was up, headed over to the Marina's facilities to have a shower and start the day. Once back onboard decided to get the laundry done with all that pile of change the teller at No Frills had graciously given me with a cashback. When a machine became available it was realized that my toonie and loonie would not meet the machine's needs of 2 loonies. Back to the boat for the correct change. Even if only counting the stairs taking one up to the deck, if that ain't a good rusty old seadog workout then it's hard to say what is!

But there is a good walk involved as well... almost twice the distance of the vista of the following photo.

Then it was back to the laundry with the correct coins this time and got water churning and laundry washing. Knowing that the machine cycle takes just about 30 minutes, then it was back to the boat. Did a portion of my now famous maple and brown sugar porridge with sliced banana for breakfast.

A few minutes before my timer alarm went off it was back to the laundry. Returned home and hung the them out to dry. Lots of good hangin' spots on deck and a nice gentle breeze to hasten the drying.

Dropped over to the Marina's Office and asked is there any payment expected today or should we wait for the manager tomorrow? The weekend staffer thought that would be the best approach. Things seem to be made as easy as possible around here.

While at the Marina's Town Square it occurred to me that a bit of lunch may be just the ticket. Dropped into the pub and to my surprise they had Michel & Brianna footing the bill and keeping the Canada Day crowd entertained. They were folky and reasonable volume for eating. Michel did a Joni Michelle cover which suited me who is a big fan of hers. They also did a number of originals which can probably be had at their web site.

Went for the club house sandwich. It was so stacked and packed that it was hard to open my jaws wide enough for a bite. Full and entertained after chowing that down my next move was back to Makina. Had a little lay down and read in that cozy forward berth. You know what happened. Woke up about 3pm-ish. Fresh and ready for my first piece of maintenance as the new owner of Makina. The plan was to hang the forward cabin's door.

Chris and his wife had found it to just get in the way. Being a couple that is understandable. The same degree of privacy may not be required between partners as with a crew. It is nice to have some space where one might want to take a personal phone call or something of that nature. Besides it would be the best place to store the door on the passage to Halifax; hung properly.

Of course the Dollar Tree had come through for me, resoundingly, with my first tool purchase for the boat.

Is that not adorable with the teeny weeny tape measure?!?

There was a little adjusting with some cardboard to sit it high enough to match the screw holes to the hinges, but it went pretty smoothly all in all. Project #1 of many... done!

Heading over to the Marina's Office to get the exact address to have my course text book sent to.

May the wind be at your back!
