A productively long day

Well this was a pretty full day. Slept in a little later than normal yet well before the working day. There was an email from the insurance agent who presently hold the policy on the boat. She had been contacted to let her know that the PCOC course had been passed. She replied that in my application my CV had been 4 years of sailing. He company now required 5 years and it would be more difficult to insure me if not in the jurisdiction of Upper Canada. She suggested trying to find an agent on the east coast; which is my intention anyway.

Did some research to see if insurance will be needed to be shown when going down the Saint Lawrence Seaway and in all 29 pages of their guide it is not mentioned; though 3 hands per vessel is suggested. So Jason may be correct that insurance becomes a particular issue when trying to berth at marinas as well as the peace of mind one has in case of accidents. My hope is to still find a policy however. Will definitely add the additional season of sailing in my own little 14 footer after my Father's passing. So not all has been lost with my interaction with the insurance agent.

There was also a reply email from the Mooring Manager of the Marina explaining that vacations had been set up for the following week so launches would not be available until the vacation weekend had ended. That's cool as it will give Chris a chance to get the bilge pump in. He had to cancel out last few scheduled days as his daughter is awaiting surgery for her gallbladder and he is standing by for support.

Jose and Jr. made it by a little after 9:30. They were cleaning up the job they had been working on further up the Yard. Jose left Jr. to tidy things up on that job while he and myself headed to the Rigging Shoppe to get some last minute supplies, the gas station to pick up 10 liters of diesel and finally Canadian Tire to get anti-freeze and diesel engine oil.

We did a stop at Burger King for some near lunchtime burgers. Jr. wanted to go to the Marina's fried take out because he wanted the chance to chat up a cute gal who works there. By the time we got back Jr. had the old job cleared away and his noon time rendez-vous completed.

They then started in on the finishing touches to the engine install.

It was pretty wild to see them bring in water to the engine through a hose to simulate how it will be drawing it in from surrounding waters and then with a little more tinkering they started her up and she started purring like a kitten. With some final tiny adjustments to the throttle all seemed except-able to Jose's trained ears.

This brought use through the heat of the day and into late afternoon. We thought it would make a good time to break with the intentions of hooking up the fuel tank and strapping down any wiring freely attached in the engine compartment tomorrow.

Did a little time under the fan and YouTubing with a very brief siesta. Got back up and was surprised it was getting towards class time for the Radio course.

This was the last of the classes and it will be up to us to book a private testing over the next month. Think it will be good to get right on it while it is all fresh in my mind.

The class broke up a little after 21:00 and this day has felt productively long. Will post this log entry, have a snack and his the hay.
