I'm a Rising Star!

Mama, I'm a singer-songwriter now!

That's right. I've decided to throw caution to the wind. I've quit my job and I am attempting to make a living doing what I've always wanted to do: play music. My dream was to be in a band as far back as 5 or 6 years old.

It was a little risky, but to start off, I just played wherever I could for as long as I could without getting caught. Outside of bars, by the train station, at the library. All sorts of places.

When I was playing by the library, I did something I never thought I'd do and found some pizza thrown out by UFO Pizza around the corner from the library... and I ate it. It was a whole pizza, they just threw it out because it was never picked up or whatever. When I started out, I was not making much money, and I honestly don't remember the last time I ate something before that pizza. I was living on whiskey and playing guitar.

Things are getting better, though. I eventually got a license to perform and could play longer, not get chased away, and actually gain some fans. People were honestly into my music. Well, the people outside of the bars seemed to like it a lot at the time, but then I'd see them at the same bar later on and they'd have no idea who I was.

Now, I've even played at a few bars. I opened for a local band called Geoff and the Croutons last Monday night and played to like 3 people, but it was still exciting. Eventually, Geoff from Geoff and the Croutons got sick and had to cancel, and they let me play last. I guess technically, I headlined, but let's be real... sometimes, you're just playing last.

I've spent some of the money I've made on a mic and a banjo. The banjo has been fun, I've been trying to learn how to play it. I met a dude named Ed at one of the bars that was telling me all about touring and it sounds cool. I want to do that someday, so maybe I'll hit him up when it's time.

Anyway, I have to jet. I'm resting up so that I can "headline" again at McClusky's Pub later on. I'll let you know how it's going!
