I've never hidden the fact that The Big Bang Theory is far from being my favorite series, I don't usually enjoy traditional comedies and I prefer those a little more experimental ... the thing is, I can't deny how well done the end of this series is.
Presented as a double episode: The Change Constant and The Stockholm Syndrome, the ending of The Big Bang Theory makes the right decisions and stands as a respectful closure to an irregular but passionate series.
It is not about objective quality but about the ability to capture the essence of the entire journey that we live with characters, dragging all their faults and taking them to an interesting and emotional place.
I could spend hours and hours writing about the structural problems that TBBT has had since its inception, problems that over the years only got worse and worse ... the thing is, it would be to deny the legacy that the series itself built little by little.
Over the years the stories of Leonard, Sheldon and company have progressively mutated, becoming a typical family comedy with many references to geek culture.
In the same style, observing how Sheldon Event finally obtains the Nobel Prize together with Amy (who is currently his wife) feels quite satisfactory, it is executed in a simple way but leaves enough open space to conclude the argumentative arcs of all his characters , although some feel slightly abrupt or inorganic.
Contrary to more infamous closings (I mention Two And a Half Men as a close example), The Big Bang Theory is a love letter to the entire project, full of callbacks and references that the most attached fans will appreciate, writing on the other hand it maintains the cheesy and slightly cringy style that plagued every episode, with the addition that it knows how to be well focused.
Although it may not be to our liking, it is the biggest comedy series of the last decade and I think the final speech that closes episode 24 of its season 12 makes it very clear to us the reason for this.
I said it at the beginning, it is far from perfect, but he knows how to embrace his own spirit and that is what every ending should do to win our hearts, it is always nice to see things end as they should be.
Nunca he ocultado que The Big Bang Theory dista de ser mi serie favorita, no suelo disfrutar las sitcoms tradicionales y prefiero aquellas un poco más experimentales… la cosa es que no puedo negar lo bien hecho que está el final de esta serie.

No se trata de calidad objetiva sino de capacidad para capturar la esencia de todo el recorrido que vivimos con estos personajes, arrastrando todos sus fallos y llevándolos a un lugar interesante y emotivo.
Podría pasar horas y horas escribiendo sobre los problemas estructurales que TBBT ha tenido desde sus inicios, problemas que con el pasar de los años sólo se agravaban más y más… la cosa es que sería negar el legado que la propia serie construyó poco a poco.
Con el paso de los años las historias de Leonard, Sheldon y compañía han ido mutando progresivamente, convirtiéndose en una sitcom familiar típica con muchas referencias a la cultura geek.
En ese mismo estilo, observar cómo Sheldon finalmente obtiene el premio Nobel junto a Amy (Quien actualmente es su esposa) se siente bastante satisfactorio, es un evento ejecutado de forma simple pero que deja bastante espacio abierto para concluir los arcos arguméntales de todos sus personajes, aunque algunos se sientan ligeramente abruptos o inorgánicos.
Contrario a cierres más infames (Menciono Two And a Half Men como un ejemplo cercano), The Big Bang Theory es una carta de amor a todo el proyecto, plagada de callbacks y referencias que los fans más apegados sabrán apreciar, el writing por otro lado mantiene el estilo cursi y ligeramente cringy que plagó todos los episodios, con el añadido de que sabe estar bien enfocado.
Aunque no sea de nuestro agrado se trata de la serie de comedia más grande de la última década y creo que el discurso final que cierra el episodio 24 de su temporada 12 nos deja muy clara la razón de esto.
Lo dije al principio, dista de ser perfecto, pero sabe abrazar su propio espíritu y eso es lo que todo final debería hacer para ganarse nuestros corazones, siempre es agradable ver que las cosas terminen como debe ser.
