The Swordsman (2020) Review

image.png

This is my first post in this brand new community and i decided to create it directly from their front end. Somehow I believe in this new tribe or want to believe for 2 reasons. The first one is the team which you can find below. Note that i will most likely never tag them, again so remember the names :P

Team:
@raymondspeaks
@taskmaster4450
@themarkymark
@taskmanager
@ecoinstant
@reazuliqbal

What one can say about these guys... Some of them are witnesses, they all have amazing projects already and are very well know around here. You can read more about the tribe in general from this post.

Now the second reason that i believe or want to believe in that tribe is that i extremely like watching movies, series, and anime. I try to do that everyday and i also managed to start my steemit first then continue my Hive "career" with that kind of content.

So not only i want this tribe to succeed i want to help them do it as well and be part of it anyway i can and ofc given my time. I won't bother you again with these kinds of intros so let's start with the show i am gonna review today!

Generic Info

Yesterday i wanted to watch something and i particularly like the Korean Cinema for many reasons. The main ones are because i think their acting is on a whole other level and the second one is that they are considered the top among Asia. It's like the Hollywood of Asia in a way.

Anyway, this movie is a new one, it came out on 23 of September 2020 and it's considered an action historic drama. Drama and Korean movies/series always go together so mostly in every review you will read that! The movie is 1 hour and 40 minutes long and it was both directed and written by Jae-Hoon Choi.

Plot

So the story starts with Tae-Yul a swordsman fighting another swordsman who is Seung-Ho. You see Tae-Yul is trying to protect his lord from a coup but after a bit of a fight, we get to see him a couple of years later living in the mountains with a girl that calls him father.

He clearly has an issue with his eyes and his daughter Tae-Ok is trying her best to find a healer for him. So in general there are troubled times in the kingdom, in fact, transition times of the Ming-Qing dynasty so it's not quite peaceful.

The bad guy in this movie is Gurutai (Joe Taslim) who is another swordsman with the aspiration to become the greatest. Seung-Ho worked for the local lord and he is now retired. We get to see that during his fight with Tae-Yul he managed to break his sword and fragments of that sword got into his eyes. That's why now he can't see clearly but that doesn't mean he can't fight.

Soon some things happen and his "daughter" is now in danger. Thus, no matter what he can see or not he is determined to save her at any cost. From there a lot of epic fights will emerge and the flow of the story will continue. I won't make any spoilers though!

What I Liked and What I Didn't

Truth to be told what i didn't like is that the plot isn't that hard to get. I am used to seeing a lot of plot twists in Korean films and in this one there aren't any. You can easily expect what's going to happen and it's not something new. You have seen this type of movie a lot of times trust me.

I also didn't like the use of blood which seems a bit fake or digital, i don't know how to put it. They can make it look more "gore", "dark" and "scary" but they didn't and i can't tell why.

The good thing is that as usual, the acting is amazing as well as the whole set. Next in line are the fight scenes which are amazing as well. Those scenes are very well executed and i bet you will enjoy them as well. It's a nice movie to simply relax and enjoy without much thinking.

If you want to think through and dive deeper the movie gots you covered. Just notice what was happening these days with kingdoms losing their power over a new enemy and cruel those enemies could get. Also, you can see how most people when feeling scared for their life, what will decide as most valuable to them!
