Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has launched an eviction drive for the second day of the illegal construction of the Buriganga river in Kamrangirchar, Dhaka.

BIWTA joint director AKM Arif Uddin said that two two-story buildings were demolished at the beginning of the drive. He said the operation will continue till 5pm.

Arif Uddin said that five of them are double-storied buildings, 28 single-storeyed buildings, 22 semi-brass houses and 155 towers.
The evacuation drive will continue till February 19 in Dhaka area under the river port, said BIWTA Public Relations Officer. Mobarak Hossain.
He said, before the operation on January 29, three 444 establishments were evicted. There are also several multi-storey buildings.
BIWTA joint director Arif Uddin said that 609 illegal installations have been identified on the two banks of the river from Sadarghat to Gabtali and all will be broken in phases.
