Thanks to the mod lead, I could buy some packs on the Maverick test server and familiarize myself with the cards before the live release on December 5, 2023.
As a splinterlands player, I can assure you that the rebellion cards are beyond dope. It is so fascinating that one will wonder where to start or how to use all these cards in the game. With the release of the rebellion, chaos will be truly unleashed on the battlefront and players will have to make sure that they have these cards in order to win the battles and tournaments and brawls. Ok, you get it, I guess.
Above are some of the summoners and they do look powerful.
Take a look at the new ability below on the legendary fire card that I was able to pull on the mavs server. I am not even sure how this card works because I have yet to test it against an opponent. I am sure this card and the ambush ability will certainly decide the fate of a battle even before it starts unless you have a similar one.

Meanwhile, the green summoner that will give +2 melee can spell doom on the enemy if you use the Gladius card. I hope it is not nerfed but then nothing is final until the release. Compared to all these cards, Yodin Zaku looks tame and time will tell if the Byza kitty will also vanish eventually.
The wild format will still have players using the previous edition cards but with land going to use the extra cards, many players will be left with no other option than using the rebellion cards for ranking up. In my opinion, if you want to climb up the leagues or even earn decently, it will be a requirement to invest in rebellion rather than just waiting to watch and see what happens. If new players come on the scene, it will also mean that you cannot just survive on the few cards that you get as rewards. Splinterlands has given us players a lot and many have even made a living out of it. Rebellion and the future of splinterlands look very promising.

If you purchase n number of packs, you can gain maverick status that comes with a lot of privileges like testing the game and features before public release and the like.

The option to die is given by the summoner above. Either - 2 life or magic reflect. Either way, the opponent is doomed. So, it remains to be seen if this summoner will be nerfed. The -2 life does seem to be a bit too overpowerful.
