It was a mistake to define a valid comment as a "comment with a shout out to a friend."
I would not call it a mistake -- an 'experiment' maybe? What if, in the future, a shout-out counts as two valid comments (if all the other criteria are met), and no shout-out only counts as one?
I like the fact that the rules change a bit with each iteration -- keeps people on their toes.
