Discussion Circle #4: Herbs & Other Plant Medicines That Assist and Support Our Immune Systems [Win Hive!]

As the northern hemisphere heads into winter, many are gathering plants for winter syrups and thinking about how to boost their immunity for winter. In the southern hemisphere, immunity helps us with hayfever and readies our system for the business of summer when we are all out and about and enjoying the sunshine. We don't want this challenge to be about COVID-19 - please avoid it if you can as we are all exhausted with it AND there's plenty of other immune topics we can talk about - but would love you to share your favourite medicinal plant for IMMUNITY, whether it's about stimulating, modulating or supporting the immune system.

You could:

  • share a recipe for a tincture, an oxymel, a syrup or any other medicinal preparation
  • detail a story about how a plant medicine has strenghtened or assisted your immune system in some way
  • consider herbs for particular immunity conditions
  • consider a herb or a combination of herbs that might assist the immune system.

Some common herbs for immunity might be elder, echinacea, garlic, ginseng, turmeric and astralagus. You might also consider medicinal mushrooms such as reishi. You can write about one or you can write about more. You might like to read this article to get you started on immunostimulants and imunomodulators.

Last Week's Challenge

Last week's challenge on artemisia was extraordinary. Clearly, mugwort and wormwood and the entire artemisia species is a powerful plant that has many uses from childbirth to woman's cycles, sleep and immunity. Thanks to all that entered - you are truly making The Herbal Hive exactly what it's meant to be - a place to celebrate and share plant wisdoms for our well being.

@oscarpower55 wrote a poem, @proto26 has been called to find out more about this plant that keeps appearing in his life, @trucklife-family wrote about the use of the herb in cancer treatment and in midwifery. @senorcoconut wrote about the abundance of this dream herb on his smallholding, @riverflows wrote about using it as a medicinal tincture and and @gentleshaid wrote about the possiblity of artemisia annua as a treatment for covid, and @didivelikova wrote about a Bulgarian detox tincture called Troichatka. @goldenoakfarm wrote about how many varieties were planted in her own garden by her sister. There were so many artemisia posts it was hard to keep up but we all learnt so much and certainly realised - if we didn't already - how special this plant is, in it's various forms. Thanks also to joined in the comment section - all comments receive an upvote by us!

Winners this week are @didivelikova for sharing information about troichatka and @gentleshaid for their well researched and thoughtful post on artemisia annua. Both win a part beneficiary on this post!
